ESPN Radio reports Manny did not show up at the park and was scratched before the start.

Well then, if that report IS true... then the stuff about him really not being traded all of a sudden does look alot more credible.

But if I were the BoSox, all his actions over the course of the last week have literally screamed "I WANT OUT OF HERE! I don't care what it takes, TRADE ME!!!". I'd be basically BEGGING teams to make me a deal to get him if I were Epstein and if all the stuff we've been hearing is anywhere near the truth.

what happens if Boston just exposes him to waivers again? will someone bite this time?

all I'm saying is I don't think epstein is too worried about this trading deadline, he is probably more worried about the end of august....

J Stark just said on ESPN News that Boston kept Manny out of the lineup to quell the rumors. LOL, they should have known it would have the opposite affect. Also, he stated that he spoke with someone close to Tampa Bay who said the deal is off and that they are taking offers for Huff and Baez. Finally, he said keep an eye on the White Sox who will dangle McCarthy to complete the deal.

You all have to remember... with a contract like Manny's, the trade deadline is Aug. 31 at midnight, after which a team can't put him on their postseason roster.

The odds of somebody putting a claim in on Manny is fairly low with the amount of money left on his contract. So he could be dealt like Larry Walker was last year.

Watching Twins/BoSox game on FSN North (actually WFTC on FSN-N, anyways...)

They said that the "official release" from the Red Sox regarding Manny Ramirez not being in the starting lineup read as [paraphrasing]; "Considering the 'current situation' and after a meeting between manager Terry Francona and Manny Ramirez, Francona felt it best to leave Manny out of the starting lineup tonight."

And of course the Twins' announcers went on to speculate it is because of a possible trade - also mentioned the alledged deal that was going to happen between the Red Sox/NYM & TB.

I'm telling ya, something's in the works here.

Whatever it is may not go down, but something's cookin'. To many different rumors as to why Manny was held out of the lineup tonight to seem "harmless". Add in the fact that Floyd was held out, Shoppach too?

I smell a "deal" cookin', in the works.

The BoSox should be actively shopping Manny, because he'll become a "10/5" guy at the end of this year. Think its hard to trade a guy who wants out/has "bad attitude" now... wait until he controls all the decisions on who, when, where, and why if they want to trade him in future years.

Interesting, ESPN's J Stark is now saying that the Ramirez/TP/Mets deal is "not" dead (after saying emphatically that it was dead earlier) but that Boston and Tamps Bay are continuing to talk to other teams to cover themselves in case it does not go through...

I knew something was still going on. All the signs point that way.

Twins announcers really laying it on thick of the speculation that Manny's gone.

Color guy; "Don't you think, that with the way it all happened right before the ballgame tonight, that Manny's gone??"

Blyleven; "I think so."

Good point, but another thing to keep in mind ist that whoever Boston would get in exchange for Ramirez would have to pass through the wire as well. Since Boston is still in the middle of a playoff race they'd need to replace Manny's production, meaning whoever they got back is likely to have at least decent value and therefore less likely to make it all the way through the waiver process.

I'm also not sure it's impossible that Manny himself would get snagged. If Boston is adamant about not picking up any of his contract, an interested team may try to grab him at full price without giving up any prospects. Boston would probably just withdraw the claim in that event, rendering Manny untradeable for the duration of this season.

I don't think it's all that likely, but the events of the past few days have at least made it somewhat plausable.

No way...they're playing the Twins? That's pretty weird. They were playing the Twins last year when our deal went down...

Starks got a call during last commercial break of BBTN... and "its 99.9% certain that its a DEAD DEAL." That DEAL being the Red Sox and Mets trying to work something out to trade Manny.

We don't need a new thread created for every update -- plenty of Manny threads around.....

not on topic for this thread but I like it when a new thread is created when something changes....personally wading through the drivel of 22 pages of posts to find an update makes this site alot less friendly. seriously, we could have traded for dunn and I wouldn't know cause its a pain in the a^$ to page through 26 pages of people arguing over irrelevant stuff.

And we can certainly understand your preference. However, nothing has happened. How many different threads should we have open about the same discussion when there is nothing new to report?

The dead have risen before. Zombie transactions are quite common, especially when ESPN is the coroner.

I don't think it is the same discussion. Just because its about the same person doesn't make it the same discussion. One thread was a thread about a deal involving manny with the many different ways that trade could go, the other one that was started was about Manny not being in tonight's lineup and what that could mean? is he sick, traded, thumbing his noise at the mgr? I see a difference there, one thread I am interested in the other I am not....that is this specific incident but in general I would and apparently others as well would like to see a new thread started when new news is available or someway to update the title. Or if its possible to stop topics about a possible trade from turning into 25 pages about whether the cubs should trade for him, its two different discussions in my mind and I guess I'm just tired of wading through all the should we trade for him to get to what the title proclaims are possible trades involving that player...

maybe I'm just crabby.

and another thing....I just get annoyed when people post mod type posts when they aren't, you are the boss if you want to shut it down cool but I don't think I have a right to tell someone where to post it....or I could just be crabby.....

I have a funky feeling that Manny will be a Cub by 2:59:59 pm eastern...we'll be Red Sox Midwest...which also should make the Beaniacs and Sabermatricians happy....

And me also! Career OPS of 1.100!!!!! \:D/ I can't remember who had it as their sig back in the Fall, so I apologize and give credit where its due:

I WOULD GLADLY EAT THE CHILDREN OF 1,000 PLANETS TO MAKE MANNY RAMIREZ A CUB.
