Probably not true, but consider this:

SI had a blurb this week where they compared Wood's stats to Chan Ho Park's at the same point in their respective careers. Nearly identical.

True, except Park pitched in an extreme pitcher's park before moving to Texas. Also, you can compare all sorts of people at various stages of their career -- for example, Wood is much better through age 28 than either Randy Johnson or Curt Schilling were.

It says that Weltazar is from Missouri, so presumably it's ESPN radio there saying it, not ESPN radio in Chicago. It certainly is possible that he's a troll but it is also possible that ESPN radio there is going on bad information. I think Rich Hill would be involved in any deal, so I think you can be pretty sure that if this doesn't materialize before his start tomorrow that it's not happening.

If the Cubs give up Wood, Mitre and Walker for just Soriano I'd be shocked.

Again Espn radio mentioned Wood and Mitre strait up for Soriano. Walker was not involved according to them, but still defensively it would make for a very shakey outfiled with hariston already playing in center although I will that hariston has been better than I expected in center!

And its ESPN Radio itself reporting this, and not some local show on your ESPN Radio Network?

How about Teixeira?

No chance, of course, but =P~ .

Throwing Teixeira into the mix is about the only thing that would make this fictional deal worthwhile for the Cubs. (Or believable, for that matter.)

All the papers are say that Walker would be involved, so this is the first time that I heard Wood was involved. I would prefer to hang on to Walker anyway, but according to ESPN radio the Cubs would put Soriano in LF and that would give us 2 second basebman in the OF. I'm not sure I like that idea from a defensive stand up! What do you guys think?

Was: ESPN radio Wood & Mitre strait up for Soriano close

Anyone else here this?

I'm calling BS and saying this thread be locked in order to prevent another fiasco like last week's Dunn thread.

I smell a troll. And my smeller is pretty good.

I will retract everything if there is some independent confirmation.

Same here. New poster keeps pushing this as something he "heard on ESPN radio" when we have several posters here who are listening to the same thing and haven't heard it. Someone check Cards Talk or WhiteSoxNation to see if anyone is bragging about making it onto NSBB.

What's your take on it, Hoops? Do you see any possibility? I think Soriano would be great for the right price. Granted, he's not exactly what this team needs, but if Hendry can't get the Perfect solution for the cubs, should he do nothing? It's an upgrade.

It sure sounds like it's a possibility that Soriano could be coming here. I doubt very much that Wood is part of the deal. I also doubt that Hendry would put Pie or Hill in this deal. But, Mitre, Rusch, Wellemeyer, Patterson, Murton, Gerut, etc... could be part of the package.

I am concerned about putting Soriano in the OF - everytime it's been suggested to him, he pouts. Having the right attitude about doing something is sometimes 50% of the battle in any endeavor in life or baseball. He clearly wants to play 2B. Last time I looked we had a 2B.

I would trade Walker in this deal, if the Rangers gave us Dellucci as well.

Now, my angle is that I think Hendry is bluffing on Soriano. He clearly understands that the Twins, Mets, Yankees and Red Sox are interested in Soriano, so he figures if he can get Soriano, then he can pick up something he really wants from those other teams: JC Romero, Tom Gordon, Cliff Floyd, Mike Cameron, etc...

It promises to be a fun 72 hours despite the slow start and general muted activity!

That's a very fair point. However, I would note that Wood's injuries are an "aggravating" (pun intended) factor...

I hate to do this, but we now have two competing almost-identical Soriano trade threads, and it would be chaos to merge them, so this one gets locked.

Please direct responses to this thread (Premium).

If you want to reply to something posted in this thread, just copy and paste it into the other thread to do so. Thanks!
