Dear Cobs,

Please call up Mr. Pawelek to Boise so it doesn't take forever to find out how he did.

Thanks.

The Boise box is up. Hagerty didn't do so good...

At least he didn't have any wild pitches or hit batters tonight.

That's a weak effort DJAXX. You should have gotten the other half of the roster to do Q&As as well.

ha ha, how do you know that there aren't others? In all honesty several other players took cards with the site address and my e-mail. I wouldn't be surprised to have more sessions announced before long!

Hey, believe me, he will or would if the season does not run out on him first. I think DJAXXFAN would agree with me that the Jaxx players are more than willling to talk to the media most any time. They have to be to put up with us all afternoon. You cannot help but fall in love with them. Jaxx players, if you are reading this, I don't really mean love.. like ..love. Like would probably be a better word. I do have a lot of respect for them as a person and the talent level that was in the clubhouse was exceptional. I,m saying this after they were 'no-hit' but we all know that one game does not mean anything. As Ron Potesta said after the game, 'Sometimes you just have to tip you cap to the opposing pitcher and this is one of those times'.

CUBS COMEBACK FALLS SHORT IN 4-3 LOSS

Daytona Climbed Out Of An Early 4-0 Hole But Ran Out Of Steam In the Ninth

By Bo Fulginiti

FORT MYERS, Fla—Friday night’s performance from Cubs starter Juan Mateo (7-5) was just the latest example of why wins and losses are not always the best measuring tool when it comes to player development.

In Game 2 of a four-game series at Hammond Stadium, Mateo logged seven strong innings of work as he gave up just three earned runs on five hits and struck out eight Miracle batters in his tenth start of the season.

But a first inning three-run homer from Miracle first baseman Brock Peterson dug an early hole that Daytona struggled to climb out of, and Fort Myers righty Jay Rainville (2-1) held “the boys in blue” to one earned run in 6.2 innings as the Miracle overcame a late Cubs rally to win by a final of 4-3.

Mateo shook off the early 4-0 deficit after the first two frames as he retired 14 of the last 16 batters that he faced to completely silence the Fort Myers attack.

Daytona used the long ball to try and chip away at the Miracle lead, as catcher Tony Richie and left fielder Paul O’Toole each belted solo homeruns to bring the Cubs to within one run. But Miracle righty Jannio Gutierrez got second baseman Robinson Chirinos to pop out with two on in the ninth to record his sixth save of the season.

Both Richie and O’Toole finished the game with two hits apiece, as Richie led the charge in a 2-for-3 evening at the plate with two RBI’s, and O’Toole went 2-for-4 with the mammoth ninth inning blast that landed on top of palm trees beyond the right field wall to keep the game alive.

With the loss the Cubs dropped to 13-21 as the Miracle evened the series 1-1 and improved to 16-17.

The two teams will go head-to-head once again on Saturday night as the Cubs send standout southpaw J.R. Mathes (8-5, 3.05 ERA) to the mound to make his 18th start of the season.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EST.
