I looked in the game thread from last night and did not see this mentioned...but why did Dusty not trot his "guy" - Hollandsworth out there in the 8th to pinchhit instead of Gerut? It seems to me that those have been the situations that Holly has shined in the past. I just do not get it? Please tell me he was hurt or something or else all the Dusty bad managerial threads are really worth it.

 

He goes from starting every day to 3rd or 4th on the pinch hit chart...what?

Gerut is a better hitter against RH than Hollandsworth. He wasn't hurt as far as I know.

I wondered why Holly wasn't used in that situation as well. My conclusion was that Dusty likely won't start Gerut over Holly, so Dusty felt this was the best way to get Gerut some type of PT.

 

Edited b/c my conclusion was likely not the main reason Gerut was given the AB. Gerut's numbers agains righties are indeed MUCH better than Holly's.

I don't think it has occurred to Dusty that some guys just aren't pitch hitters whereas others are better suited for that role. Gerut clearly does not look comfortable as a pitch hitter. Plus the guy has a bum knee right now and probably needs it to loosen up a little before he hits after sitting for several hours. It really made no sense to me at the time and still doesn't make sense to me now.

That's what kills me. Gerut has better numbers against righties than Holly and Murton should at least get his ab's against lefties. (he's definately deserved it). Why do we have all three. I know Gerut has played right field recently but can Murton play anywhere than left. 3 left fielder's is a waste. Someone should be moved. Hope Holly.

I saw it mentioned somewhere that Hairston looked a bit gimpy right before he came out, but most likely Dusty just wanted to keep Macias sharp. :P
