At tonights game, I happened to glance over at the famous ACXXXXXX sign over in RF. I noticed that it now read AC026097. Earlier in the year, it clearly read AC016097 (confirmed: http://community.webshots.com/photo/366959130/366959130OSzxFp ). There is only one reasoning for this, they have given up on the division and are making a point apparently.

Anyone else confirm this, and anyone think they are jumping the gun a bit? Anyone think this is a pointless thread ;)?

I was explaining what that sign meant to my girlfriend at the last game I went to (July 14) and it said 02. I didn't even notice it was wrong at first...I guess I have already given up on the division this season too!

I dont get it, what do the numbers stand for?

AC = "Anno Catuli" which is Latin for "Year of our Cubs"

the first two digits (should be 01) are the number of years since we won the division (last time was in 2003)

the second set of digits (60) is the number of years since we've won the pennant (i.e. gone to the world series).

the last set of digits (97) is the number of years since we've won the World Series.

That'll be awkward in a few years when they'll have to add in another square.

everybody has a bad century.

That was one of my favorite things of winning the division - after the double-header in 2003 when they took down the 13 and put up the 00.

Of course it was a million times worse when they had the 00 ready in game 6.

I always thought the AC was "After Championship" and then there was the Eamus Catuli sign which was Latin for "Go little bears" or something like that...

Guess it could be either one..

I believe the AC stands for "And Counting"

According to http://www.cafepress.com/eamuscatuli, where they sell merchandise with that on it, it means....

EAMUS CATULI: a phrase of Latin origin

E.amus: [v.] to go, walk; to march, advance

Catul.i: [n. plural] young of any animal, pup/cub

So, the first sign proclaims, “GO CUBS!”

AC005996: a measurement of time, specific to the Cubs, which changes annually:

AC - Anno Catuli or "The Year of Our Cubs"

00 - years since a NL Division Title (2003)

59 - years since a National League Pennant (1945)

96 - years since a World Series Championship (1908)

Pardon me if my math teachers failed me over the years, but if the last two should be 60 and 97, then the first should be 02.

(2005-1908=97, 2005-1945=60, 2005-2003=2)

maybe they realized an error in their math and decided to concede the entire season

The thing I posted from the website is just an example, I think, not the real numbers.
