i have to say that I don't see a match here. Although they need pitching and we have that , add to this we need OF and they have lots I dont see players matching up. They are scared to give us a player that will hurt them ie Dunn , and Hendry is not only scared about another D-Train trade but is worried that if another starter goes down we could have big problems. I see the price being too high even for Kearns. I would like to look at seattle for Ibanez or Winn to add a bat. If the price was right i might even consider encarnacion from Florida. Note on all this our OF looks very empty next year??? Mr Damon your table is ready???.

I agree with you, I don't see us agreeing upon a trade with the Reds -

and in regards to Winn, I believe he'll be wearing a Skankees uniform by the end of the week....

the only problem with Winn/encarnacion is that they are not that much of a upgrade then what is already in LF. I would rather sit on what they have then make a trade for trades sake...

If money were no option for the organization, I'd say give Damon a shot next year (but for no more than 3 years guaranteed).

Problem is $ IS an issue, there are a number of teams that are going to bid on him, AND he WILL command a very hefty salary as well as 4+ years.

I don't believe just adding him makes us a championship team, and because of the $ involved I think we can address more problems than 1 with that kind of cash.

i still believe that there is a good chance that we will make a deal with tampa bay for baez, and/or huff. They just seem like the best fit, since they need cheap young talent for players that will be walking out the door soon anyway.

Right now, we know we can get at least .260 with below average pop from Hollandsworth in LF, along with pretty solid defense.

We can get very good defense from Gerut.

We *may* have a .300 hitter in Murton who takes a good amount of walks.

Basically, we need either a BIG bat (Dunn...Kearns when he's on) or to just stand pat and give Murton more of a shot.

The offensive production out of Murton/Holla wouldn't be as big of an issue if we had Nomar hitting 6th and playing well, then you can have Barrett 7th and Murton 8th, leaving us with a very solid lineup. However, taking Holla out of the lineup leaves just Walker and Burnitz as the only every-day LHs in our lineup.

Unfortunately, neither will happen. The Reds won't want to trade a big bat to a division rival, and Murton could be the 2nd coming of Babe Ruth and Dusty still wouldn't play him more than once a week.

I disagree. You can't run a team under the rules that you "can't trade a player to your rival" cause you sink just as quick. If the package helps the REDS, they would move Kearns and/or Dunn. Heck, both Dunn AND Kearns are very disgruntled in Cincy, and Kearns has publicly begged the Cubs to trade for him.

I ALMOST expect Kearns to be a Cubs before the deadline.

the problem is that the reds are the kind of organization that would cut off the nose to spite the face.

they may not entertain a deal with the cubs simply BECAUSE kearns has publicly said he'd like to play for them. kearns and reds mgmt have had an ugly relationship the last couple years.

BUT he may have HURT the Reds chances of actually GETTING decent package from another team, knowing that Kearns ACTUALLY prefers going to the Cubs.

Like I said, "I ALMOST expect the Kearns to be a Cubs, maybe for Patterson, and a decent pitcher like Mitre." I guarantee they wouldn't get a better deal then that.

I would still love for Kearns to be a Cub come July 31st...the kid's only 25 and he's very gifted. He's shown ability to play well at the big league level already, too.

Avenger, I see your point...but conversely, I was suggesting the reds would be more likely to trade kearns for less value to a team other than the cubs just to "punish" him.
