Is it just me or does it seem like more duys are being designated for assignment this year?

Darn, beat me to it :x . Oh well, and no, its not just you. Anyone up for giving Embree a chance, or do we have our own Embree in Remlinger?

Why is it that everytime a team RELEASES someone, people think we should pick them up? Boston's bullpen is a mess and they released him. Come on, this is getting silly.

i don't think you should judge the player by the team/bullpen he was in. that said, we don't want embree on our team.

Take it from someone who watches a boatload of Red Sox games (only because I moved out here and can't get WGN).

The Cubs DO NOT want Embree - whatever he had last year is absolutely 100% gone this year.

well it's not like we have any players on this squad that have been released and worked out well. (Perez, Rusch) or had any in the past that have helped ( Van Poppel , Worrell, Jobo) granted there not huge talents but they contributed . As we get deeper guys that you pick off the scrap heap or call up from triple AAA if they manage to help you win a game or two it's considered a sucess.

By the way Embree really sucked this year.

Agreed. I've watch this guy with San Diego a couple years ago and he has completely lost whatever he had with the Red Sox. They are a team in need of relief help and they are letting him go... that tells you something right there.

What should you judge him by?

ERA, WHIP, K/9, BB...the standard stuff. i've gotten to see him pitch a few times this year. he gets rocked. his stuff is flat and he loses control easily. a change of scenery doesn't fix that.

i wasn't suggesting that i wanted him, only that the individual RP should be judged rather than collective bullpen when deciding whether or not a player should be acquired. :)

As long as we agree, he stinks. We don't need another bad RP. I was just saying that if Boston needs relief help and cut him, then I don't think we need him.
