Thank God were saving our season by beating up on the patsies like we should!

I'd say we'll know just how good this team is by Aug. 8. After this series vs. the Reds we have a stretch of 16 games, 13 of which are against wild card contenders - it'll decide if we're contenders or pretenders.

3 vs the Cards - HUGE SERIES! If we maintain the momentum and win this series we'll be primed to beat up SF in

3 vs the Giants

then it'll be tooth and nail vs. good but not great teams

4 vs the Dbacks

3 vs the Phillies

3 vs the Mets

Hopefully our starting pitching keeps dominating, we'll make improvements thru trades and not do any white-flag deals, Nomar returns around then and we'll be flying high. Can't just play .500 during this stretch.

Can't let the Cards squash our momentum.

The thing is though, without looking at numbers, I feel the cubs have never really beat up on the teams they should have and its been one of their biggest problems in the past.

They sure did in September 03, and most of September 04... It's a shame they ran out of gas at the end last year, they wouldn't have beat a minor league team at that point.

This is so true. I don't want to get ahead of ourselves, we still have some games before the Cardinal series that are very important, but IF we win up to that point, this series could be the most important series the Cubs have played in a long time. It'll be a deciding factor in how the rest of the season goes. The Cardinals are the best team in baseball (I don't care what the White Sox record is... and as much as it pains me to say it, it's a fact.) If we manage to win the series, momentum will be at a season high, and we can ride that through. If they beat us, it might demoralize our team and drop us back down to mediocrity. So here's hoping the Cubs do their job against Cincy, and then we'll all be on the edge of our seats all weekend in the 100 degree heat. This has the potential to be almost as important as the final series in 2003... Just this Cubs fans opinion though.

I say it'll go like this:

PIT: 3-1

CIN: 2-2

STL: 1-2

SF: 2-1

ARZ: 2-2

that's 10-8. Sorry, but that seems about right to me. Puts them 1 game over at the deadline. Ho hum.

Just call me Derwood the Greek. Minus the racism.

Might as well count in 2-1 aganist St. Louis, and 1-0 already aganist SF. :D

Yep. I happily got the STL series wrong.

I think most of us are happy that we're wrong. I would say the majority of us would have expected 1-2.

4 games out of the wild card! This team is a contender.

And as such, we should sweep the Giants, take 3 of 4 from the slumping Dbacks, then take 2 of 3 vs both the Phillies and Mets. So 9-3 in our next 12 games, making us 60-51 by Aug. 8th. Which is also when we'll have Nomar back, Wood and Williamson in the pen, a true LFer thru a trade, and Johnnie B. Baker engineering one of his perennial second half surges.

And as hard as we were hitting Carpenter, we really should have swept. I can't believe the Cubs only managed one run that game.
