Daytona: RHP Juan Mateo (6-3, 4.14 ERA) vs. RHP Steven White (0-0, 10.12 ERA)

Peoria: RHP Sean Gallagher (8-3, 1.71 ERA) @ LHP Danny Christensen (1-3, 3.71 ERA)

Boise: RHP Matt Avery (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 3 IP) - 9th rounder

Thanks to Serena and Jon for your help!

Also, the SL AA and the AAA all-star games are tomorrow.

The Iowa all stars are SS Ronny Cedeño (promoted) and RHRP Jermaine Van Buren. The West Tenn all stars are SS Buck Coats, 3B Casey McGehee, RHP Ricky Nolasco, RHRP Andy Shipman, CF Felix Pie (injured), RHRP Talley Haines (promoted) and LF Matt Murton (promoted). I *think* the AAA all star game is on ESPN 2 tomorrow evening.

Nathan - thanks to whomever is updating the pitching matchups on the Chiefs website. It's great not having to search through the other teams' websites.

Gallagher started vs. Burlington twice, on May 16 & July 2.

The Mesa box has been posted. I would also like to say that I am going to be working on the Potesta Q & A and it should, hopefully, be done at some point tonight.

That's great!

A reminder that Bo will be e-mailing the recaps from the games in Daytona throughout the rest of the season. His recap will be posted after each game in the discussion/box score thread.

Sounded like he was pitching well at the end. He's 6th in the league in IPs and currently leads the Chiefs -- though he, Estrada, Weber and Shaver are all close to 100 IPs.

Final - 5IPs, 2Hs, 2Rs, 2ERs, 4Ks, 3BBs, ERA -> 1.80, WHIP -> 0.93

Victor Ramos pitches two scoreless innings, still 4-2 Chiefs in the 8th.

The Chiefs bullpen had given up 30 runs in the last 29 innings.

Eric Patterson with a standup triple in the 9th -- scores on a wild pitch. 8)

5-2 Chiefs

Ryan Harvey walks

Jesse Schmidt singles

Drew Larsen singles, Harvey scores from 2B on a play at the plate (he kicks the ball out of the cather's mitt)

6-2 Chiefs to the bottom of the 9th!

Chiefs win!

Jesse Schmidt = Player of the Game

2/4, 2RBIs

He'll probably be interviewed tomorrow for the pre-game show.

In the AAA all-star game, Gerald Laird just hit a grand slam.

I'm all about some Minor League baseball on ESPN2!

I'd really like to see E-Patt moved up to Daytona soon. He definitely has things he needs to work on, specifically making more contact, but he's putting up better numbers at Low A-ball than he did in college. He'd certainly be able to hold his own at the very least in Daytona.

Looking at the box I see that there were 22 K's last night between the 2 teams. Here's the recap from Bo:

TAMPA POUNDS DAYTONA 9-3

The Yankees Set The Tone With A Four-Run First Inning, and The Cubs Never Recovered

By Bo Fulginiti

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla—After Tuesday’s dramatic comeback victory, the Daytona Cubs performance in Game 3 on Wednesday turned out to be a day late and one miracle short.

For the second straight evening the Cubs dug an early hole, as the Yankees put up a four-spot in the first inning to jump out to an early 4-0 advantage. But this time Daytona didn’t bounce back as Tampa centerfielder Rudy Guillen stroked a two-run homerun in the sixth frame that put the game out of reach as the Yanks cruised to the victory by a final of 9-3.

Cubs starter Juan Mateo (6-4) settled down after a shaky first inning, but it was too little too late as the right-hander was charged with the loss after coughing up five earned runs on nine hits in four innings of work.

In stark contrast, Yanks starter Steven White was stellar in his four innings on the hill, as he surrendered just one hit while striking out four batters in the no-decision. Tampa reliever Phillip Hughes (1-0) then came in for three inning of relief, and he gave up two earned runs on two hits while striking out six Cubs batters to notch his first Florida State League victory.

The one bright spot at the plate for the Cubs was right fielder J.J. Johnson who overcame leg cramps to turn in a 2-for-4 night at the plate with a pair of singles and a run scored.

With the loss the Cubs dropped to 5-13 for the second half, as the Yankees improved to 6-12 and remained in fifth place in the West.

Daytona will try to salvage a series split as the two teams meet at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Thursday for the season finale between the two squads.

The Cubs will send righty Anderson Tavarez (3-8, 5.68 ERA) to the mound to face Yankees right-hander Jason Jones (5-7, 4.48 ERA).

First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. EST.
