In all honesty, Joe would probably be happy to go to any team for a chance to stay in the majors and pitch. He's likely close to a make it or break it point of his career where he either convinces himself that he can still get outs, decides to undergo surgery or just retire.

Although I feel badly for how the last couple seasons have gone for Joe, I can't help but think that he was one of the few who got his 15 minutes of fame in life and was able to do something he really loved and was good at it for awhile. I'm guessing Joe is a pretty competitive guy and if he can't put it together soon he'll likely retire and not hang around being shuffled from one team to another for a couple years.

I wish Joe well, but the Rays have a habit of acquiring used up vets that absolutely nobody else wants. Getting signed by the Rays is not much better than a AAA contract from a real team.

Wow, dude. I'm not meaning this as attack, but that's one of the stupidest comments I've ever read. It's the MAJOR FREAKING LEAGUES. Kids DREAM about playing in The Show. You CANT be serious. I dont care if the Rays lose 150 games, they're still in the Bigs. Tell that comment to a kid who followed baseball his entire life, collects baseball cards, played prep league, etc - you are out of your mind!!!

Good thing you didn't mean it as an attack. Joe is not a kid, nor is Randall Simon, Tom Goodwin, Fred McGriff, or Robbie Alomar. For guys like Joe Tampa is typically the last stop on the way to the golf course.

I'm no moderator, but you should watch the personal attacks (i.e. "you are out of your mind", "one of the stupidest comments I have ever read"). People have been justifiably disciplined for less.

Well explain to me the point of posting on a forum about major league baseball, if you don't respect the league?

Argue the merits, don't belittle the poster.

You're right. You're not.

Forgive my impertinence. I didn't realize that friendly advice was inappropriate.

At this point in his career, even the DRays is a welcome opportunity for Joe. I wish him well also.

I am a mod, and in the future, please express any disagreements (or questions) you have without throwing in personal insults ... like you were able to in this last post.

Thanks!

Good luck to JoeBo, wish he could have recaptured the magic with the Cubs.

Sorry, I didn't say he was stupid, I said it was a stupid comment and it was. I stick by what I said. I think a lot of people on this message board have Joe Morgan syndrome, and gripe about everything as well. That's not to say there's a lot of great, outstanding posters - and there are, thats why Im here. But I'm still sticking by my point that a lot of posters just think they know too much, and come on - saying someone shouldnt play for the D-Rays? Would YOU pass up a chance to play in the show?

No, I'd like to make MLB minimum wage. :) Thanks for explaining, though.

It's up to frostywrm to say what he thinks. Obviously.

I didn't say he should turn down the Rays, I just pointed out that having to settle for the Rays is usually a very very bad sign for a veteran's career.

Does anyone know if we get anything for Joe?

it seems as though we should since he was designated for assignment...right?

Nope. He cleared waivers.

We get to pay all of his salary minus the major league minimum. But I don't think that's what you meant.

Borowski has looked good in his first couple outings for the Rays.

The Cubs waited so long on him to get healthy from the shoulder and then the broken wrist that it would a shame if it turned out that they let him go just as he was getting it back together. I am assuming the Cubs coaching staff saw something (e.g. - lack of velocity, reduced movement on slider, etc) that caused them to decide to just give up and DFA him instead of sending Mitre down and giving Borowski a little more time.
