I have one question that I just need to have answered.

How in the world does a team that has Wood, Prior, Zambrano, and Maddux in the rotation lose eight, yes count them, eight (insert your favorite profane adjective) games in a row? How?

Poor starts and no hitting, oh, but then again, you knew that!

OBP?

The problem with this team has never been pitching, it's exactly what most of us thought it would be.

See the signature, Raisin wrote that in Jan or Feb.

Does this belong in Transactions?

To answer your question though those guys in the rotation haven't pitched all that well and the bullpen hasn't helped them out. Our offense isn't that good to begin with but has really slumped.

We've given up an average of 6 runs per game and our offense has only scored 2.5 runs per game.

That's not the only problem. Of course offense is our main problem, but during our losing streaks this year, our pitching has been a problem also.

We've given up at least 4 runs in every game over this streak. We've given up more than 4 runs in 5 of the 8 games.

People can throw all the stats out there that they want, but the team has fallen apart and it doesn't help when the manager's clueless. I think Hendry is trying to address the collapse by demoting a few guys, and hopefully that's just the beginning.

All of you are correct. I think part of the problem with the pitchers currently is they think they have to throw a perfect game to win. They know the offense is terrible and they are feeling pressure. I think I heard on yesterday's game (Ron and Pat on radio) that the Cubs have never had a lead in their current losing streak. This was after Atlanta scored in the first game.

I guess it is hard for the pitchers knowing if they give up a run or two that their offense might not get that.

I've wondered that too - the best reason I can come up with is...

Because all facets of our team's game has gone down the toilet at the same time - starting pitching, relief pitching, defense and offense.

I'm with you though - dumb luck alone should have had us win at least 1 game during this stretch! Maybe God really DOES hate the Cubs - I'm beginning to run out of any other ideas.

Our starting pitching has underperformed and our offense was not that good to begin with and it was made even worse by Dusty's poor lineup management.

I'll be damned if I can figure it out, Vance.
