My thoughts exactly. I was actually wondering if we would do this to add to a package. None come to mind, but Hendry's mind works really weird.

I fount the bit about Hendry calling up Pie and Murton in late July or August interesting. In order for this to have any point at all, he would also have to deprive Dusty of Patterson and Hollandsworth.

Exactly. To me all these different things make it sound like there could be a bunch of changes. Love to see them start with saying goodbye to Dusty, so if the young guys are called up, they can play.

As i just mentioned in another thread, I find it pretty doubtful that they jump strait to the bigs without at least a breif stop in AAA, unless Im about to see a whole new outfeild in Iowa. I could see them maybe getting a look in September, especialy if we are out of it, but i doubt they will be up as soon as July or August.

Ok, so if they do some time in Iowa, how much time would you like to use a sample? I mean, 10 days, two weeks, and if they are cutting it, up they come, if not, back down they go?

I don't have too much in depth knowledge of our minors, other knowing names and basics. Someone else feel free to jump in and help out.

I guess i would personally like to have them go at least 3 or 4 weeks in AAA just to see if they can handle the next level of pitching. If they maintain good numbers then you can look at puting them on the 40 man and starting their option clocks. Just my opinion but i dont want them in Chicago (or anywhere near Baker) until September at the earliers. I think that we hurt Corey by pushing him along too fast and i do not want that repeated with our next group of OFs.

Agreed on the Baker side. There would be no point in bringing them up around him at all.

I think we need to look at these players as individuals and not lump them all in as the next Corey. It's clear that Pie probably needs more time, especially coming off an injury. Murton, on the other hand, is a little older (23), played in college, and is known for a high baseball IQ. In other words, Murton is the kind of guy that seems capable of making adjustments and already has a sound approach to hitting and getting on base. Murton's situation is not the same as Corey's. Corey was (is) simply all young raw talent that didn't (and still doesn't) have Murton's baseball IQ. I guess wht I'm trying to say is Murton appears mature enough to handle a callup and recognize that adjustments will have to be made for the majors. Pie may need more time in the minors to handle the adjustments.

And according to an article on Cubs.com, Pie will be on the shelf for at least another week and probably longer. They discovered a bruised bone in his ankle while he was rehabbing with a sprained ankle
