CubFaninCa gets the credit for this line of thinking - can we be the facilitator for some 3-way deals involving other teams' starting pitching, and better ourselves in the process?

So, here's a few ideas to noodle over (SEA-CUBS-BOS) and (SF-CUBS-BALT):

(1) Seattle trades Jamie Moyer and Shigetoshi Hasegawa (free agents after 2005) to Boston

(2) Boston trades Trot Nixon (under contract through 2006) to the CUBS

(3) CUBS trade Todd Hollandsworth to Boston, and Sergio Mitre and Jon Leicester to Seattle

(1) SF trades Jason Schmidt to Baltimore and Ray Durham (under contract through 2006) to the CUBS

(2) CUBS trade Corey Patterson, Todd Walker and Todd Wellemeyer to the Giants

(3) Baltimore trades Jay Gibbons to the Cubs, and a medium level prospect to the Giants

If both trades were made, the Cubs line-up would be:

CF Hairston

2B Durham

1B Lee

LF Nixon

3B Ramirez

RF Burnitz

C Barrett

SS Cedeno

I've never liked durham, personally. And I dont particularly like giving up walker. I'm not a huge fan of gibbons either. I'd rather just go after one big fish (Dunn) rather than adding another .260 hitting OFer. I dont see how that particularly improves our team.

Nixon, on the other hand, is an interesting Idea. I wouldnt mind him, at all.

We should have the mods combine our individual threads into 1.

As you can see I really liked your middleman approach.

Not too bad. I think Seattle is getting a little shorted, they may want at least another prospects their way. Likewise we may want a little more from either the Giants or the Os in the second deal. (althoguh we still owe the Giants a little for the Hawkins fleecing).

I think Ray Durham is a step down from Walk. Would Gibbons be a bench guy or would Burnitz, What happenes to Nefi or are you just starting Ronny and benching Nefi?

Sounds like a good idea.

BOS, OAK and ChI would make an interesting pairing. I think Zito's going to be dealt and Boston could take Kotsay to replace Nixon.

TEX, OAK and Chi could work too. Zito, Rusch and Walker to TX, etc., etc....

I'm guessing Zito stays put this season. He'll be next year's deadline trade bait.

Are the bosox itching to bring up a guy from AAA to put in right, or am I missing something. I dont see the defending WS Champs going with Holly and Jay Payton in RF for the second half of the season. Also, when Schilling comes back they are going to have to move either Arroyo or Miller to the pen and Moyer is no improvement over either of them now. Shiggy's not having his best year either and is no improvment over Timlin, should Foulke be down for an extended period of time. I love the idea but this trade doesn't help Boston this year or next year.

Philly gets Schmidt & Patterson

Cubs get Burrell & Lofton

SF gets prospects

I told a buddy in '03 that we should have brought Lofton back to finish his career and hopefully help Pie take over the spot because as I said, "Corey isn't the CF of the future". He laughed at me at the time, but he said the same dang thing to me this past weekend. He chuckled a bit when I reminded him of that conversation.

He got the last laugh when he reminded me of the time a few years ago when I told him Clemens was done. :)

I think the Cubs would be overpaying in the Nixon deal without a minor leaguer coming back.

I don't think the Cubs are even looking for a starting pitcher. Come playoff time, if they ever make it, they have three (sometimes) number ones, then Maddux. You don't need 5 starters in the playoffs.

Those trades turn: Hollandsworth, Mitre, Leicester, Patterson, Walker and Wellemeyer into Trot Nixon, Ray Durham and Jay Gibbons?

Are the Cubs trying to win the 2005 pennant or the 2001 pennant?

I do not like the trade either, But, your tone seems to be a little offensive. If you disagree with it fine, so do I, but it would be in your best interest to not sound as snippy.

Sorry, I had no idea we had to observe Robert's Rules of Order. Especially from somebody with a Fire Dusty avatar.

No, my avatar is of tupac. My signature is in support of firing dusty. Who ISNT In support of firing him. Not many. I find your tone very offensive. The reason NSBB is such a great site is because we are verry well moderated, I was just giving you a heads up that your tone/mood is not very highly looked upon, and should you like to have an extended stay here, it would probably be in your best interests to not make cracks about other posters.
