Yesterday at the BOB he was hitting 93 on about every fastball, occasionally 92. The cutter was at 85, and the curve at 75-77.

In '01 (the career year) he was a two pitch pitcher with the big 75-77 curve and the fastball mostly around 94 and occasionally hitting 95-96.

Greg Maddux also ranks in the top 10 in luck with an expected record of 5.2-6.7 which is basically the reverse of his actual 7-5 record.

yeah, because you see lots of people going around saying "maddux is back"

And your point is?

the point is that it makes no sense to compare morris to maddux.

no one is touting maddux here. however, there are separate threads here boasting of the accomplishments of:

- matt morris

- mark mulder

- chris carpenter

I probably am missing the love-threads for suppan and marquis, but I'm sure after they throw a good game some cards fan will bump them. It'd be nice if the cardinal fans could just have a "STARTING PITCHER!!!1" thread and consolidate all of this.

don't mention it.

here are some ideas on what to fill the thread with:

"kerry woods never won 15 games"

"well, prior is on the DL again..." (also may use Wood here)

"zambrano is a hothead"

I'm sure we could fit those and a few "Best Fans In Baseball" references in. Might as well keep them all in one thread.

As stated above, any team in the game would love to have a pitcher with a line like Morris' this year. And as far as weak competition goes, Morris is pitching against the same league everyone else is.

I would be thrilled to see the Cardinals retain Morris for 4 yrs/32M. But surely the Yankees are going to be hunting pitchers in the offseason, Matty Mo will be one of the better FA pitchers on the market, and he grew up a Yankee fan, so he might well leave for the Bronx.

If it were me, I wouldn't want my rival to keep a pitcher who's got a career 97-53 record, 1.25 WHIP, and 3.50 ERA, and is still only 30 years old.

are you my friend doug? my friend doug has nothing but worthless stats like this.

"MATTY MO! HE JUST KNOWS HOW TO WIN BALLGAMES. THAT'S ALL HE DOES! I LOVE HIS BEARD! DID YOU KNOW HIS WALKUP SONG IS "THE JOKER"?" HE'S 11-3 LIFETIME VS THE CUBS! THOSE ARE CLUTCH STARTS! HE EARNS HIS PAYCHECK! HEY DID YOU SEE BASEBALL TONIGHT LAST NIGHT? MAN JOHN KRUK CAN BE DUMB SOMTIMES, BUT HE'S USUALLY SPOT-ON, AND ALWAYS HILARIOUS! GOD I LOVE THAT SHOW."

this might be the only post i've ever made where i dont exaggerate.

Really? Sweet.

I'd be very content with Carpenter and Morris as the core of the Cardinal staff for the next few seasons. Keep them, and try and find an outfielder who isn't pushing 40.

Kruk doesn't get love from anyone I know. Nor should he.

I find Kruk funny, but he's usually a little off on his anaylisis'. My favorite guy on Baseball Tonight is Gammons, second is Brantley.

Brantley is just as bad as Kruk at "analysis". The only reason Kruk is hated more is because his opinions on everything have to be different than everyone elses. If you asked Kruk, Gammons and Brantley "who is the best hitter in the league?" and Gammons and Brantley said Pujols, Kruk would name someone else.
