Just noticed that the Cubs are 2nd in MLB in position player WAR, trailing only the Dodgers.  Lots of that is on defense for the Cubs.

If we weren't elite defensively I can only imagine how much worse our pitching would be.

28th in pitching war, 30th in home runs/9 at 1.49 and a modest 17th in ERA. Pretty horsefeathers bad without the defense. Cubs also have the same total war as the Braves with 18.6, just 8 less wins.

Also,, if I remember correctly, Shota in particular tends to benefit from extra rest.
