I bet you thought this post was going to be about his rehab. Wrong. He's optimistic about something else.

"I'd like to see if I get two months [to play this year]. Actually, it'd be longer than that because we'll be in the playoffs and doing stuff for three months."

Does anyone know exactly when he'll be back? I hadn't heard for sure.

There's still no timetable set, but he's hoping to be back for the final 2 months of the season. (3 if we make the playoffs)

Neifi has been giving us more than what we expected from Nomar and IMO, he provides more balance than Nomar in the lineup. If we had Nomar, we'd have 4 guys hit over 30 HR's this year. You need a couple of guys who can swing for the fences, but I think that the Cubs have too many. Lee, Burnitz, Ramirez is enough, plus the R-L-R order is also good.

I hope we resign Nomar next year, with Cedeno being the backup SS/3B, so we're not hurting a lot of Nomar would get hurt again. We'll get him cheap.

Neifi gives us more balance in the lineup? His OBP under 300 in front of Lee? He has been awful since March. Nomar would have certainly outproduced Neifi in every offensive category. We don't need balance in the lineup (the whole lefty righty thing is overrated), we need guys to actually get on base in front of Lee/Ramirez. Just because a guy hits over 30 HRs doesn't mean he doesn't get on base; I'm not sure what point you were trying to make with that.

Only thing Neifi provides is a steady glove. He's a decent backup.

I want Nomar on this team next year, and if healthy, many years after that.

Maybe 2 years tops. After that you're going to have an ageing veteran with declining skills and a bloated contract, and we all know how the Cubs feel about those...

After watching Nomar's interview just now...I really hope he can give us a boost this year. It seems like he truly likes it here and I see no reason we can't sign him to another cheap 1 year deal with Cedeno as the backup.

Nomar could be sounding genuine because he knows if he remains a fan favorite in Chicago, he can get the most money from the Cubs this offseason despite yet another disapointing year.

I don't think it's an act.
