Haha, that was the score of todays game, blanked by the Rockies at home. Not even Cubs swinging at every pitch they saw, got shut out by the Rockies. That's so awesome to see.

Apparently we are the recipients of some Cubs fans feeling cocky after the election of D. Lee to the All Star game.

And our loss was different than the Cubs loss, how?

We scored runs and we werent playing the worst team in the league?

Go away, we're relishing not being the only team that sucked today. Boo hoo hoo.

OK, now that we have human tendencies in common, the book is out. Cards can't hit lefties. Our only shutouts this year are against lefties. I don't know how we combat this problem, other than bat Nunez and replace one of our players that can't hit lefties (and there are a few).

The best part about it is that in spite of an embarrasing loss to the worst road team in baseball, the Cubs gained no ground in the standings.

I guess this was a little too "trollish" for Vance.

Walt says his priority is to trade for an impact bat in the form of a young outfielder that can help us now and in the future. Maybe they'll get somebody who can hit lefties.

i just want to say todd helton is worthless

I just want to say I agree. I have him in one of my leagues and turned down a trade offer for him and Z straight up.

As for the game, well we lost to their best pitcher who happens to also be Cardinals kryptonie (lefty who locates). I will say this though. The only thing that makes a down stretch against teams we should beat tolerable is the fact that we haven't lost any ground in the standings.

Sounds like the words of a bitter fantasy owner.

By the way Cardinal fans, you're not getting Vernon Wells. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

So who's he going to trade to get that? Reyes or Wainwright?

A man can dream. Take away everything and stick him with a geriatric outfield and a man still has his dreams.

All I have to say is "Just Let Go"! It was refreshing when I did it to Lowell last week; haven't regretted it so far.

Likely one of those two. He said that in trade talks teams are asking for pitching from us and that right now we have pitching depth at all levels of the organization. It would be nice if we could keep both those guys but getting a serious outfileder will probably take moving one of them. It will be very interesting to see how it shakes out.

A young impact bat will. An aging impact bat would be cheaper. But teams who have young impact bats aren't under as much pressure to trade. If I were one of those teams, I'd insist on Reyes.

If you're talking about Vernon Wells, I'd start the discussion with Reyes. Then I'd ask for some other stuff too, probably whoever their top positional prospect or Chris Lambert. In any case, I don't see it happening at all this season. Sanders doesn't deserve to get sent to the bench, and Walker doesn't either if he's healthy. If they trade for Wells and everyone is healthy, somebody is going to be very unhappy.

Posted
Walker has already said he can't physically play everyday or near to it and wouldn't mind taking on more of a bench role. Wells can play all OF positions and could bounce back and forth spelling all three guys. To get Wells the Cardinals would probably have to give up Marquis + Wainright + low level crappy prospect or career AAA'er. I'd do that in a second.

I thought about Marquis, but his salary is already $3M and next year it will likely go to about $5M with another arbitration year. Wells is currently in the third year of a contract that will pay him:

2006: $4.30 million

2007: $5.60 million

during the next two years. Are they really going to trade him for a pitcher who would end up being at least as expensive as Wells, if not moreso? I have my doubts. The Blue Jays would much prefer a guy who was earlier on in his free agency clock.

Posted
What's funny is that Vernon Wells is a better defensive CF than Jim Edmonds though he'd never get a chance out there.
Posted

I'd like to see a trade for Kevin Mench. We have plenty of pitching to give, and the Rangers are always in need of it.

Walt will get something done, and it will probably surprise all of us.

Ok, you drive a tough deal, but I have talked to Walt. He said that he would do Pujols straight up for Patterson. It will be difficult for Albert to take the news, because he doesn't want his little cousin playing for a crappy organization.
