Did you know that BJ Ryan is the first pitcher to be named one of People's 50 most ridiculously good looking people? High five for da BJ!

Tonight, our friend BJ came into the ninth up one run, THE MOST PRESSURE PACKED OF SITUATIONS! Mere mortals (Latroytals lol) crumble under the weight of such a situation. Did BJ give in to the pressure and blow the game for his team? A thousand times no, what he did do was strike out the side on 14 pitches.

3 Strikeouts, 14 pitches, 1 god amongst men.

On the season, 29.2 IP 15 saves 46 K's to 9 BB's, and an era that is now lower than the 2.20 it sat at before todays matchup.

The best news, HE MIGHT BE A FREE AGENT NEXT SEASON.

Bester news, there's just about no way he isn't a free agent next season.

BJ Ryan would be awesome!

Btw, when was the last time the Cubs signed a dominant closer? Was it Rojas? or does he not qualify? I was just curious, because it would be nice to have a closer for like a 5 year stretch, instead of having to answer the question differently every season.

He'll likely be signed by the Red Sox or Yankees as a replacement for their faltering closers.

And even if he does sign with the Cubs he'll somehow end up sucking, causing the fans to hate him which will cause us to trade him to get Andy Pratt back.

How so? He won't negotiate in-season with the O's?

Ask David Ortiz of the Red Sox if BJ is a God among men :-)

Or if the Cubs sign him his arm will suddenly fall off.

I can think of a way. The O's drive a truckload of money to his door. With the Nats cutting into their gate revenues the O's can't afford to lose any momentum by letting Ryan walk.

I was thinking that there's almost no way he won't be eligible after the season service time wise. That's the angle I was coming from.

The O's can afford to lose the momentum with that sweet deal they signed with MLB, which guaranteed them a certain level of revenue even if DC manages to cut into their fan base.

The O's fan base is eroding. The luster of Camden Yards has worn off. Even if the Nationals weren't there they'd need to resign Ryan to avoid sending the wrong message to their fans.

Angelos and the O's brain trust think they can win. Why not? The Yankees are a couple losses away from a meltdown by their owner. The Red Sox are old. The door is open.

Spoken like the fan of a team in first place in June. There is plenty of baseball to be played.

A lot of people want Billy Wagner for closer next season. But BJ Ryan is Billy Wagner, ON STEROIDS

Both have pitched 34.2 innings this season. Both have 18 saves. BJ has give up 26 hits, Billy has given up 25. BJ has given up 7 runs this season. 7! Billy has given up 10. BJ has only given up 4 homeruns, to Billy's 5. Both BJ and Billy have walked 9 batters. The difference is, while Billy has struck out 33, and has a nice 3.7k/bb ratio BJ has struck out 55, and has a nicer 6.1k/bb ratio.

wags throws harder, so it's definitely not the roids. i think wagner would come cheaper, but i'm not adverse to signing dempster and using the money to upgrade at other places. the dempster phenomenon will give us a lot more money to throw at a leftfielder, a SS, and middle relief. granted, the market isn't looking too good this next offseason, but i'd like to see giles in left, sheff (via trade) in right, and pie in center next year. it's oldewr in the corners, but i'm not really concerned, both guys know how to get on base.
