And for the Cubs, catcher Adan Sanchez belted a solo HR in the 3rd inning, reached base on an HBP in the 6th, drilled an RBI triple and scored a run in the 9th, and threw out two Rockies baserunners attempting to steal, and RHP Kenyi Perez threw two innings of shutout ball in relief, striking out five of the seven batters he faced (four swinging).

The Kenyi Perez slider features one of the highest spin rates in minor league baseball (in excess of 3,000 RPM), which may help to account for a minuscule .164 OppBA coupled with an astronomical 9.47 ERA, and 60/81 BB/K, 10 HBP, and 18 WP in just 38 IP at Myrtle Beach in 2024. So if K. Perez can command his high velo FB / high spin SL combo like he did today, minor league hitters could be in for a rough 2025 when facing him, and Perez could move very fast through the Cubs pipeline (but again, that's only if he can consistently display the same command in 2025 he showed at Salt River Fields today).
