It is, but Columbus got the younger (and cheaper) winger in the deal. Rumor is that Marchenko wanted out when Bowness asked him to toughen up

Toronto got the better player that didn’t want to sign in Columbus while the Blur Jackets got the younger player who is actually signed longterm, which is a huge advantage for that team. Knies probably doesn’t have the leverage to demand a trade in a couple seasons, but CBJ has to get good in next 2/3 years or that’s going to become an issue again.

One player falls into coma and isn’t going to recover. Coach plays it off like nothing and school keeps him on until all the kids that are desperate to keep their scholarship finally force their hand and he’s placed on leave. Replacement is a guy with a history of DUIs.

This isn’t a rarity as much as it’s a regularly scheduled and promoted league wide marketing event
