Well...if he's referencing the psychology of large numbers, he's correct. If you're like most people, there would be virtually no difference in your reaction if $280M showed up in your bank account tomorrow vs $1B showing up there. They are both basically incomprehensible amounts to the human brain.

Ohtani’s $600 million (boogity boogity!) has already come and gone like it was never here. No different from Harper’s $500, Machado’s $400, Bryant’s $300, etc etc. Cracks me up because it’s very casually going to be “yes but > $500 million is so much!! How are we supposed to improve The Future 2.0 if they’ve spent $480 million on an aging player? It’ll be the worst $450 million Ricketts has ever spent!!” 

he's not the first pitcher to have $100m come off his value because of TJS in a contract year.
