Great start:

Fields doesn't seem to concerned and noted that Chase was part of Fields' personal camp he held 2 weeks ago with WR, but still a less than ideal start for him.

Wtf was the point of putting him on the PUP list for 1 day before camp even started?

I believe that if the Bears for some reason needed to put him back on the PUP list, it can only be the list that requires the player to miss 4 games.

Wake up call / slap in the face?

Guessing he was on PUP before they got to see him in person/give him a physical. Last they knew, he couldn't practice at OTAs. Of course, neither could Sanborn or Mooney and they weren't put on PUP.

My theory is that Poles monitors Bears Twit....er, X and knew the meltdown that would happen and trolled the fanbase.

FWIW, I refuse to put make/break on Fields this year. Last year just messed me up so bad. I don't know what to think anymore. LOL.  If you told me that Fields would have 2200 yards passing and the Bears finished with the worst record in the league, and Fields actually played every non-tank game, I would have assumed the Bears would already have a new QB.

Somehow, Fields is going to put up the Jameis Winston season, break the Bears passing yardage and TD records and we still won't know if he's actually good or not.

Back when I still lived in the area, I always hated this time of year on sports radio. The Cubs and Sox were still playing, but often irrelevant, and 90% of the non-commercial time was devoted to the Bears camp. ESPN and The Score would have quarter-hour reports from Hallas Hall on absolutely nothing and then they would take multiple calls from nutters about what the Bears should do with their third-string running back

Now tell us about Alabama sports radio that literally only talks about Bama football 24/7/365

I don't listen, but I imagine it's a lot like Columbus, except they also talk about Auburn too.  The only person worth listening to in Columbus was Herbstriet, and they ran him out of town.

The Columbus sports radio I listen to does a good mix of OSU, Blue Jackets and Crew along with national stories. A lot of the other programming is more OSU-centric. But at least we have some pro sports (plus Browns/Bengals/Guardians/Reds/Cavs) in addition to OSU, while Bama has, well, Bama

It’s ironic to hop into a Chicago bears focused threads and hijack it to talk about how crappy sports radio is in various podunk towns

Funny that they talk about the Crew but it makes sense since they only have 2 pro teams in town plus OSU.

I can't remember Chicago sports radio ever talking about the Fire other than reporting the scores.

The whole "Save the Crew" drama raised a lot of interest, and then they won the Cup and built a new stadium, so interest has spiked

I feel safe in thinking we’ll have a lot more answers after this season.

If he regresses he’s done.

If he duplicates last year, it’s a huge disappointment and we have to start planning for the next guy, even if he might go into 2024 as the de facto starter.

If he gets injured and misses a lot of time, you have to believe his style of play isn’t long for the league and you have to start planning for the next guy.

If he improves a little, you can consider picking up his option, but also keep your options open in the next couple drafts.

If he takes a leap, he’s the guy. (But you can afford to regularly spend later round picks on potential backups)

All absolutely true, but my lack of "make or break" is because of all those IFs. There aren't too many QBs who aren't who they are by the end of their 3rd season. But the Bears have proven time and again to be the exception at the QB position. So, I'm fully prepared for all possible outcomes, including one where we still don't know like the injury or slight improvement.

Unless the injury coincides with an excellent season while healthy otherwise, I think both of these scenarios at least give you clarity in knowing you cannot count on Fields to be the guy. You’d have to at least look into bringing in competition for the starting job on 2024 and at least be prepared to move on after that season.

this past years results left a lot of questions unanswered, but the extenuating circumstances that existed this year won’t exist next year.
2022: The GM tanked. The system was new. The line was unaddressed. The skill positions were bottom of barrel.
2023: They aren’t tanking, at least in terms of trying to score. It’s the second season with the offense. The line has been addressed with free agent and first round talent. The skill positions have been thoroughly, if not massively, upgraded.

If Fields doesn’t improve markedly, he’s a prob

I don’t think I meant to say he’s a prob, but I think I like this shorthand

Almost any injury is going to be a mark on the wrong side of the ledger. If it's sack related, he held the ball too long. If it's run-related, QBs are not running backs.

He has to show that he can make the routine plays, routine.

He has to show the ability to find the open receiver quickly or check down to a different receiver and not look to run first.
