People keep bringing up the 10 games under/10 games over achievement, but I feel like even that doesn't quite put it into proper context. The Cubs are 50-28 over a 3 month span (since June 8 - the sweep at LAA). That' s a .641/103 win clip. Sustained over 3 months.

Imagine how different the perception of this team would be if even only half of the ****** luck of those first 2 months hadn't happened (yeah, it has evened out plenty since, but just saying).

Didn't the Washington Nationals go on a similar type run in 2019?

There are several teams that have bounced back from bad starts to end up making the playoffs/advancing far.  The major difference with the Cubs seems to be how far into the season they turned it around

2003 Marlins - Hit low water mark on May 22, falling to 19-29.  They hit .500 on June 24 (39-39) and 10 games over on July 30 (59-49)

2019 Nationals - Low water mark on May 23 at 19-31.  They hit .500 on June 27 (40-40) and 10 games over on August 14 (65-55), though were 9 games over back on July 24.

2023 Cubs - Low water mark on June 8 at 26-36.  They hit .500 on July 27 (51-51) and 10 games over on September 1 (72-62)

Yeah, folks just kept talking about how bad the team was on here and elsewhere - all the while the underlying numbers were screaming that they were not.

We had some unfortunate decisions of hoping a couple of washed vets would bridge us to next year at first and it took a while to figure out and use the bullpen, plus Fulmer got much better and honestly, at least IMHO, Rossi just flat out lost us some games early I don't think most managers would have with certain lineup decisions and a couple of in-game decisions.

But we figured some things out, got rid of the guys Rossi kept thinking he had to play, and we figured out the bullpen issues for the most part and hey....this team ain't that bad!!

Count me among the people who were annoyed they were wasting what I assumed to be their best stretch of play this season when they kept losing close games. Oops.
