PCA did not take kindly to his slugging dropping below .500

Also for seemingly the first time in weeks neither of Perlaza or Canario did anything in the first inning

jake slaughter has been weirdly incredible for a guy who never looked like anything besides roster filler before this year. probably going to end up with 30 sb and 20 hr and his BB/K ratio has improved from a putrid 23/112 last year to 35/79 this year.

Maybe this is just a hindsight thing in that the ones who made it are the only ones I remember, but checking the minor league threads almost feels more fun now than it did in 2013-2015. Back then we had the studs but there were really just a few names to keep an eye on and if there were any minor injuries or cold stretches it seemed like there weren't any positives coming out of the system. Now it feels like every day there's 2-3 people with some sort of future major league potential putting out something impressive, and that list is like 40 deep.

I think that's true, and I think the league-wide progress in player development plays a big part. In 2013 there was less prospect upward mobility, especially for guys who had gotten above Low-A. Now individual player improvement is so common place that even if it's not the most likely outcome, there's a real chance that hot streaks are representative of a skill change that could be at least partially sustainable.
