Really good pitching day, also presumably Kilian day for Iowa?

If he doesn’t go today, maybe he takes Smyly’s spot if he’s not ready.

Swarmer will probably take Smyly’s spot.

The math works out for Kilian today(but it also worked out yesterday). Iowa didn’t list a starter so I’m not sure.

Both today and tomorrow’s games are on Marquee so we should see him. If it’s Kilian today, it’ll be Cam Sanders tomorrow.

Won’t they still need another with another DH vs the Cardinals Saturday?

Hendricks

Thompson

Stroman

Swarmer/?

Steele gets us to the off day.

Oh, that’s right.

Well, I guess it could be Mills who gets the start for Iowa today.

They probably could just call up Espinoza to start as the 27th man again so they don’t have to make a 40 man decision.

Yeah I'd guess Mills or Espinoza. I think they'll probably wanna be careful with the 40 man until next week with those two off days.

Leiter is also on the roster and hasn't pitched since he was recalled on Sunday, which is maybe telling of the intent to start him.

Holy hell DJ

6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 HBP, 12Ks

8 Ks in a row at one point. I guess if we're nitpicking the smattering of balls in play were all airborn? This has gotta be the best outing by a legit Cubs prospect since...gosh probably some Andrew Cashner outing?

DJ only went 5 innings, not 6. But either way, that’s very exciting.

The answer to your question - Brailyn had a 14 K, 0 BB, 1 H outing over 6 innings back in 2019

Oh dang, I jumped the gun I guess. A little more dominant a little less efficient than I thought

Wow I knew Brailyn's run at the end of 2019 was great but didn't remember him doing *that*

Cristian Hernandez singled twice, stole two bases, scored the first run of the game, and drove-in the last one, Raino Coran singled twice and knocked-in a run, and Michael Arias, Yovanny Cruz, Dominic Hambley, Elian Almanzar, Yovanny Cabrera, and Alfredo Zarraga combined to hurl a no-run / no-hit game with 15 strikeouts

EXST Cubs top pitching prospect Michael Arias saw his first game action in more than three weeks, and threw a 1-2-3 nine-pitch 1st inning to get things started. Arias suffered a lower-body injury in a game at Sloan Park on May 10th when he attempted to cover home plate on a bases loaded wild pitch and stepped awkwardly coming off the mound.

Looks like Ismael Mena is back in box scores in Arizona too.
