That at bat was simply amazing. He started 0-2, then the Pirates pitcher tried to get him to bite on 3 straight pitches nowhere near the plate and then......BAM! I tuned in early in hopes that they gave him a start instead of the craptastic lead off extraordinaire, Ortega. I think he earned a start tonight. The enthusiasm Morel displays is great.

He swung at that 3-2 like he knew exactly what was coming

just noticed the Cubs went back over .400 for the first time since before facing the white sox

So you're saying there's a chance...

He did know. I told him.

Or maybe Jose Hernandez for those who remember him.

You just killed my buzz. But looking at his minor league numbers prior to this start that seems spot on. Maybe we can trade him for a new Aramis.

And to be clear that's not a terrible outcome! For most of his Cubs tenure Hernandez was a league average player or slightly below, and having someone of that caliber able to eat up playing time at multiple positions helps raise a team's floor. Plus he could always figure something out and be more of a Contreras or a Chris Taylor in terms of value.

I just remember he hit for power but drove me nuts because he struck out so much. Even in today's baseball he'd be top 10 in the league in K%. But yeah for a guy who was maybe a top 20 prospect coming into the season Jose Hernandez would be a solid outcome.

Morel also told Willy he was gonna hit a bomb in his first AB just like he had 6 years before. So dope.

He also told David Ross during the Spring that he would see him at Wrigley this year. Considering he was called up from Double A that's a fairly bold proclamation. Dude is nostradamus

The part that killed my buzz was the "for those who remember him" line.

This game was really fun to watch. Not only did the Cub's win, but Thompson, Hughes, and Morel. They give me hope for the future.
