for those who only come here for their bears content (so, basically minnesota lol), here's something to hold you over until camp

I know this is obviously cherry-picking his great moments, but I don't know how anyone can watch this video and still say that Fields is a failed QB who can't be salvaged at this point. To be fair it's largely rival fans looking at his numbers, but the number of people who treat Fields a bust is ridiculous.

rival fans who don't look at advanced metrics, at least (or who think QBR is advanced metrics)

man, there are throws/plays in that video that I'm not sure i've ever seen a bears qb capable of. cutler had the big arm but it always felt like what impressed had more to do with velocity (plus a lot of the back shoulder stuff) than fitting throws into windows and ball placement. maybe i'm overlooking him a bit, but no other bears qb i've seen even comes close, otherwise.

why would Joe Brady be a good hire? The Panthers had a worse offense then we did

He was the mastermind behind the LSU offense that won a championship a couple years ago.

Maybe, but I can tell you that most LSU media credits Steve Ensminger with that LSU offense in 2019, and were not surprised to see Brady fired at Carolina.

Also a nice reminder of how tough the Bears schedule was this year, as the highlights include games with the Rams, Bengals, Raiders, Packers, Bucs, 49ers, Cardinals, Packers again, just relentless.

And Fields did it with an offensive line that was easily bottom third in the NFL (I think Peters was mostly solid, but everyone else was pretty bad), and I'm excited to see what Fields can do with an offense tailored to him and an OL that can give him 3 seconds of pass protection.

Its fun to watch Fields take 5-7 steps back, plant, and Mooney is already a good 30 yards down field on some of those throws. Dude is fast

One of the things I think we will never know is how good/bad this OL really was. I don't think it can be understated how bad the scheme really was. Lot of stop routes, not throwing to receivers on the move or in space. Lot of obvious passing situations, most which featured QB in shotgun and a 5-man protection. The Bears OL was middle of the road in terms of pass block win rate and stats like that, but they gave up the league's most sacks despite being bottom 10 in dropbacks. This wasn't a good OL by any means, but certainly there are worse out there....including 1 playing in the Superbowl.

DBB is pretty much gospel at this point. Wonder why the Bears couldn't close? Bills are obviously a solid job but if he was in town interviewing you'd think we had a shot of him coming here.

I've lost so much enthusiasm since last week. Think Poles seems like a good hire but I'm not high on Eberflus and this staff at all. And now Harbaugh is going to Minnesota and they're probably going to be awesome.

I'm willing to give them a chance but I don't feel good about this at all.

in 4 of his HC years at SF, he went to the NFC Championship 3 times and the SB 1. I think blowing off the Vikings hiring Harbaugh is a mistake. I dont think he alone will turn the Vikings into a juggernaut, but his hiring will likely be a good thing rather than bad for the Vikings. On the flip side, Eberflus is a total unknown at this point

Yes we all know what he did nearly a decade ago in the NFL. There's no guarantee he can do that with Minnesota. I like Harbaugh and would still prefer he stayed at Michigan over hiring another coach but he has some deficiencies, particularly on the offensive end. I know he made Kaepernick a SB caliber QB but he has done nothing to develop QBs at Michigan. I don't think he's going to magically make Cousins better than he is now. He loves run heavy offenses that tire out the opposing defense and that's good for a team with Dalvin Cook, but Cook is oft injured so I'm not sure if the extra wear and tear is good for him. Also not great for Jefferson and Thelein.

I do think he's a floor raiser coach and his teams play hard for him. Even though most people dismiss him as a super intense weirdo, he's genuinely a good dude and is well liked by Michigan players. There are definitely some positive attributes that could make this a great success for the Vikings, but its far from a sure thing IMO.

dan quinn lost a superbowl too

he had greg roman and vic fangio (probably will have fangio again) in SF

until this year, his tenure at michigan was nothing to write home about. he wears out his welcome everywhere he goes. he wants more control than he deserves and an enormous contract to go with it that would almost ensure that he sticks around too long if things go sour. coaches who want to be the defacto GM usually do not work well, with few exceptions. he's done little to deserve this stature.

is he a solid HC? yeah, probably.

he's also a huge weirdo and i'm not losing any sleep over the vikings possibly tying themselves to his nonsense for 10 years.

I think Harbaugh is a safe hire. He's a better version of John Fox, in that he can come in and make an unprofessional mess look respectable. He can help a very good team stay in the fight. He can inspire and probably get the most out of you. But he's not Belichik. He's not his brother. He's not going to be in his next gig for 10 years. He'll probably be a net positive for 5 years but will wear out his welcome and won't be the guy to make your QB a superstar.

yes, i only quoted this so it wouldn't get lost at the bottom of the page.

also - mind you - i would've been fine with hiring him and i do like that he tends to go with the numbers in terms of 4th downs. i would've talked myself into the right GM pairing being able to rein him in a little bit.

He also lost 4 games at Michigan at least like 5-6 times, with players he got to handpick himself on the recruiting trail. His offenses were also all in the 20s in the NFL (and typically around 60s in NCAA).
