Assuming the Vikings do get Harbaugh, they are going to have some interesting decisions to make. 6 defensive starters are FAs. 14Mil projected over the cap. They can't really restructure Cousins (and his 45Mil cap hit) without creating dead money in void years, because it's his last year under contract. With Harbaugh, it makes a ton of sense for them to go full Rams and try to add 1 more weapon on offense, an elite pass rusher and probably a solid CB or two. Going from Zimmer to Harbaugh, along with the Packers demise, probably puts them in the 10-11 win range on paper. So they could easily be a top contender. Even though Cousins isn't great, he's probably better than Jimmy G who has gone to a SB and was 3 points short of doing it again.

But they probably also shouldn't extend 35-year old Cousins because he may not be good enough to get them over the top. So, they'd be looking at Harbaugh to develop a young QB in 2023 and beyond, and probably be a rebuilding team for a couple years. I'm not sure Harbaugh wants to do that or if the Vikings want to admit that, especially if they do win 11 games and have no ring to show for it after 2022.

Trade Cousins for whatever and sign like Mariota and draft a guy. I think Harbaugh can make that worth as you'd free up a decent amount of needed cap space by trading him.

I missed this comment from Fields yesterday:

It's good that he takes the high road on this type of stuff, but you can tell that he thinks the previous administration was a shitshow. Hopefully we can put it together before he realizes that its the organization that's fucked.

(score another one for DBB)

how is that a score for him, he was linked to the job by others a week ago

He was definitely the first I saw that said Brady for QB coach/passing game coordinator. Other rumors was for OC.

did he make that call before OC was filled, or after? I don't think it really says anything about your reporting ability to link an obvious candidate for a job to an interview for the job.

Pretty sure it was before filled. Maybe it was after the rumors that Getsy was offered the job, but definitely before he officially got the job which was like 2 days ago

Say what you will about the results, the Bears are not the shitshow a lot of other organizations are.

I think the hiring committee was a legit attempt to get diversity of input, and their interviews of minority candidates were not tokens. I think it helps that they look back longly for the days of Lovie Smiths' tenure, but however they got here, I do think it's clear they weren't just paying lip service to the concept.

when the rumors started I said Harbaugh leaving my favorite college team to coach my favorite pro team would be the weirdest thing ever. I was wrong, leaving to coach a division rival is even weirder.

I'm really good at being completely detached to players when they leave Michigan to go to the NFL/NBA so I'm sure I can hate Harbaugh pretty quickly while still appreciating his work at Michigan.

for those who only come here for their bears content (so, basically minnesota lol), here's something to hold you over until camp

(since it's blocked - it's Fields full season highlight reel)

why would Joe Brady be a good hire? The Panthers had a worse offense then we did

He was the mastermind behind the LSU offense that won a championship a couple years ago.
