I know Daboll is a long shot now at this point, but I would have thought that the Giants would have made the hiring official by now

Waiting for Poles' call

I guess I'm "meh" on Caldwell but I also thought, wasn't he the only guy who whipped the Lions into some semblance of a decent team?

Indeed he was. He was 36-28 with the Lions. The first HC to leave that team with a winning record since the early 1970's. And since he was fired in 2017?

2018: 6-10

2019: 3-12-1

2020: 5-11

2021: 3-13-1

That said, I'm thinking they are going to hire Quinn.

for shits and giggles (and obviously, caveats regarding the quarterbacks involved apply), i looked up the DVOAs of all the offenses Caldwell either was OC or HC for. kind of a mixed bag.

2009 Indy (HC) - #6

2010 Indy (HC) - #6

2011 Indy (HC) - #27

2013 Baltimore (OC) (he was interim at the end of 2012) - #31

2014 Detroit (HC) - #19

2015 Detroit (HC) - #13

2016 Detroit (HC) - #15

2017 Detroit (HC) - #12

His two playoff teams were the two worst years DVOA-wise.

I could get on board with that.

My biggest concern is obviously just how much responsibility those guys have had given how hands on McVay appears to be and that Kafka would be another Reid guy who may or may not have much to do with their success.

Have the other McVay assistants taken a lot of his concepts? so hard to know how good LaFleur actually is given Rodgers is there

The other Lafleur hasn't proven a lot but he did get like 900 yards in 2 games out of whoever that nobody was who came in when Zach Wilson was injured. That alone is more than Nagy ever did. Literally can't remember his name he's such a nothingburger.

Edit - it was actually Mike White the first game and Josh Johnson the second game and was 800 passing yards against two decent opponents, Cincy and Indy.

Jets were 22nd ranked offense dvoa, with crap QB play. Bears Offense dvoa ranked was 26th.

blah blah blah Kapman, but if true I guess it explains why the list isnt expanding now that Poles is on board.

it isn't necessarily not expanding

I know it's really common in the NFL but just thinking about in my world, what would happen if we hired a leadership position and then said, OK GO! Hire your people and make it quick.

I mean, has Poles been issued a laptop yet and been given logins?

Basically DBB was on a podcast yesterday and said that one thing Poles made clear while interviewing is that he is very very high on Fields. Grain of salt because while he's proven to have connections, saying "Poles is high on fields" is a pretty low risk thing to make up if he wanted to sound connected

I really don't think there's much reason to be doubtful of DBB having a source. Quality of source, and certainly bias of source, flame away. But between the Pace call, naming the exact day and candidates of certain candidates, and being the only one to say that George would announce a restructuring at the PC, means he has a real source.

Some have speculated its close to Ted, which sounds like a reasonable assumption. But if it's not Ted himself then there's gonna be an opportunity to have bad, biased, or incomplete info from time to time. Still for rumor-mill blogging and not traditional, well vetted, journalism standards, it seems pretty good.

Oh I agree he's connected. I'm just saying that even if he's connected he seems to now be breaking inside info several times a day. He might have a loose lipped connection at Halas Hall, but given the volume of stuff he's putting out there I wouldn't be shocked if some of the stuff he says is questionable in its truth, but very low risk to say. The GM the Bears hire is almost certainly going to be high on Fields...its a pretty safe thing to say.
