They tested negative. Guessing just a precaution after Jed and Ross tested positive.

LOL - Duffy gets the suicide bunt down, and it rolls about 5 feet in front of the plate. Hermosillo had no chance to score.

Two out and no runs so far.

cubs are 6-3 in their last 9 games. They are definitely playing better than they were after the deadline, but its also just a sign of baseball randomness and a schedule with the Rockies, Twins and Pirates.

There's still plenty of time for the other shoe to drop but Schwindel just keeps hitting.

Just for fun here are some slash lines over the last 28 days, which represents most of the games since the deadline:

Schwindel: .330/.382/.649/1.031

Happ: .275/.313/.571/.884

Chirinos: .269/.377/.442/.819

Wisdom: .207/.266/.552/.818

Ortega: .256/.322/.415/.737

Everyone else sucks like expected:

OPS -

Alcanara - .698

Duffy - .677

Heyward - .660

Bote - .560

one of the romines - .401

Through 7/29 the Cubs combined slashline for the season was .227/.308/.398/.705. Since the deadline it is .240/.293/.401/.694.

Not as much of a dropoff as I would have thought considering they lost Javy, Rizzo, Bryant and Contreras for most of that period.

A bit of an indictment of the core players earlier this season.

Kudos to Ian Happ. The guy was abysmal during the first 4 months of this season, but he really seems to have turned the corner this past month. Bodes well for the future Cubs.

Yeah, early on he was pretty unlucky, but from May onwards there was no real excuse. He could have just packed it in but instead he's grinding and finally has his numbers back up to "merely kind of bad." Hopefully he can stay hot and the season at "decent.". Makes this offseason a lot easier if you feel like you can count on him.

Love seeing the bullpen rounding into form. Megill's actually been pretty good the last few weeks. Would love for him to do enough that he can be near the top of the list among the guys fighting for a pen spot in Spring Training.

I'm sure I'm drunk even though I don't drink, but I'm starting to think maybe that old core kind of sucked. Some weird ass Frank Schindell dude is better than all of them. Edited by Bryant's Disco Ball

Don't know that they sucked, but certainly underachieved BIG TIME after 2017.

Sometimes I look at Javy's batting average and I think maybe he wasn't as bad as I thought, only to realize it's his OBP and that I really don't think we should care if he or any of those guys come back.
