Mahle's velo was way down that inning, and it's not cold in Cincy today. I'd be very worried if I was a Reds fan

Nico is Nico-ing again already

As fun as it is on its own merits, it also probably means that Sogard's only got a few days left on the roster (someone has to go for Joc), so that's a bonus

Despite that overturn, it’s time for some Wolters appreciation. The guy is the 3rd catcher on the depth chart and he’s doing absolutely everything he can to stay on the team.

People won’t want to hear it, but Sogard has been way more useful than Bote.

no f’ing way you can overturn that. cubs lost the heyward play at the plate on a phantom tag yesterday because the call on the field went against them. here the call on the field gets overturned. just get rid of replay.

Man replay frustrates the hell out of me. He very well might've been out and was definitely a stupid play, but I figured the all important call on the field would've been the difference with those looks.

He was clearly out. His foot was hovering above home plate.

Either way, Bryant is earning himself some money this year

no chance in hell you can say his heel indisputably did not scrape the plate. he was prob out, but his outness was certainly not indisputable.

I’d be cool with the plate becoming a “plane” where hovering above = touching it.

I think Jed was trying to get a Scott Feldman like performance out of Trevor Williams, but I can tell you right now that teams are not going to be lining up to trade for him in July

rotation is so terrible.

Too lazy to look up but our starters ERA has to be bottom 3 in baseball right? Almost like when you trade your best pitcher and do not resign 3 other starters and replace them with nothing of note, bad things happen

It really depends on how heavily you believe in FIP and/or xFIP. Williams has actually been really solid from a peripherals perspective: solid K rate, good walk rate, good groundball rate. HOWEVER, he's given up a ton of hard contact, he's fifth worst in exit velo allowed going into today. How much of that is luck? I used to think almost all of it, but now that we have access to exit velocities it's harder to be adamant about that.

Cubs starters came into today with a .354 wOBAa which is dead last in baseball by .008.

Other stats of note:

SLG - 28th .468 (.004 behind last)

OBP - 30th .347 (.005 “ahead”

BA - 29th .268 (.001 behind last)

ERA - 30th 5.70 (tied for last with LAA, 28th best team has a 5.28 ERA)

Great stuff
