Yovanny Cruz is alive!

Started for AZL Cubs 2: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K, 1-1 GO-FO, 10-2 GO-FO.

Hopefully he can get stretched out and get a few starts for Eugene this season.

Yes, I was very happy to see this.

I'd love to see what Cruz, Albertos, Estrada and Correa could do if they'd just stay freakin' healthy!

Jeez, talk about hot and cold.

On July 5th, Cuban catcher Alexander Guerra was hitting .111/.250/.333 after having gone 0-for his last-12, striking out 6 times in 13 PAs. Since then, he's gone 12-for-28 (.429) with 2 walks, 2 singles, 1 double, 2 triples and 7 HRs with 20 RBI over his last 7 games raising his season line to .273/.355/.855.

Now, he's doing this as a 22-year-old in the AZL, so prospect-wise it doesn't mean much, but, damn man, make up your mind! Do you want to be good? Or bad?

The Duane Underwood conversion to relief looks like it's bearing fruit. He converted May 31st and his first appearance sucked, but since June 1st:

13 Gs, 19 IP, 15 H, 5 BB, 0 HR, 25 K

1.89/2.11 ERA/FIP

I dont have anything on his groundball rate since the switch, but given how the ball is flying in AAA this year I'd imagine it's strong as well.

Baseball needs a loaner program. Send Miami some low A nobody and then tell them to pitch Underwood for 6 weeks to see what he's got and then send him back to us.

The difference this year (and it's really not an every year thing) is Underwood is doing it as a reliever. There's been a lot of discussion about how good he could be as a reliever. And, he hasn't been this good, at least not in a long time.

Franklin's development is encouraging... The Cubs are building some pitching.

Somebody get on the horn to Manfred. This is way better than the 3-batter rule.
