I’ve seen it discussed a few places on here. I thought I knew these rules, but it turns out I was wrong, so I figured we could put them in a central spot.

Tie Breakers

Makeup Games

Makeups/delays/suspensions/etc. are all handled by MLB Rule 7.02.

MLB Rules 2018: http://mlb.mlb.com/documents/0/8/0/268272080/2018_Official_Baseball_Rules.pdf

7.02 starts on page 85.

7.02(b)(5) is the rule that dictates if games have to be played or if you can finish the season with less than 162 games played.

Any postponed game, suspended game (that has not pro- gressed far enough to become a regulation game), or tie game that has not been rescheduled and completed prior to the last scheduled game between the two teams dur- ing the championship season must be played (or contin- ued, in the case of a suspended or tie game) to a com- pleted regulation game, if the League President deter- mines that not playing such game might affect eligibility for the post-season and/or home-field advantage for any Wild Card or Division Series game.

I think this means the only time it wouldn’t be played that could affect playoff seeding is between Division Winner 1 and Division Winner 2 since they both already have home field in the LDS.

Then how would they determine for a potential LCS?

Head to head results, I guess? If that were tied, I don't know what the next move would be - but then, since most inter-division matchups are 6 games per season, if one weren't completed, odds are someone would have the H2H edge.

Let’s say the overall NL standings end like this:

Cubs -

Braves 0.5 GB

They wouldn’t make the Cubs makeup the game and the Cubs would be seed #1.

But if they looked like this.

Dodgers -

Cubs 2.5 GB

Braves 3 GB (and hold tie breaker)

They would make the Cubs play the extra game to determine if the Cubs or Braves would have HFA for LDS.

This is what I’m rooting for:

Sunday: Cubs AAAA team beats Cardinals pushing them into a tie with Dodgers and Rockies.

Monday: Dodgers defeat Rockies

Tuesday: Rockies defeat Cardinals (in St Louis)

Wednesday: Rockies defeat Brewers (in Milwaukee)*

Thursday: Rockies vs Cubs NLDS begins

Cubs beat Rockies

Braves beat Dodgers

Cubs beat Braves

*They might make them play a day game because AL Wild Card Game.
