Arizona Phil[/url]"]Luis Verdugo belted two triples, scored twice, and collected an RBI, Richard Nunez drilled an RBI double and walked twice, and Erling Moreno, Riger Fernandez, and Chi-Feng Lee combined (albeit pitching for opposite squads) to hurl 6.2 IP of two-hit shutout ball, in a six-inning AZL mini-camp intrasquad game played Thursday night on Field #1 at the Riverview Basebal Complex in Mesa, AZ.

Luis Verdugo is clearly the best prospect left behind in Mesa after the Eugene Emeralds departed town on Tuesday. One of the reasons he was left behind is that Luis Vazquez needs to play SS most every day at Eugene and on days he doesn't Christopher Morel will play there, but the main reason is that Verdugo is only 17 years old and is making his pro debut (although he did attend AZ Instructs as a 16-year old post-2017 and Minor League Camp and Extended Spring Training this season).

With Robinson, I want to see if that strikeout rate holds up. Anyone hear how his changeup looks this year? He's always had a fastball/breaking ball combo.

If the changeup has improved enough, it's starting to look like he could have more of a mid-rotation ceiling, which would be a nice jump and surprise.

Quietly following Duncan Robinson's path is Rollie Lacy, the former Creighton ace. Gets a bit lost in the shuffle, but he started in the pen and has really gone on a nice run as a starter. Ceiling's probably a bit lower, but well, thought the same for Robinson last year. I believe Lacy's more of a 2-seamer. I'm guessing his strikeouts are more a mirage right now, the byproduct of an advanced college pitcher working against youngsters in A ball, so I'm curious how he'd fare higher, but there's enough battle for spots right now that he doesn't have an opening to go higher.

Fernando Kelli stole home. The radio broadcast crapped out so now clue what happened

He took home on the throw to first on a dropped strike 3.

That speed is unreal. Just get on base, kid.

All kidding aside, per AZ Phil, and I'm sure you know all this already, 88-91 on the FB, advanced change, developing curve, with good control of all offerings.

Yeah that's not really what I'm looking to find out or see from video.

He closes out his night with a K. At least three Ks were swinging, which is nice. The radio broadcast made it seem like there was alot of weak contact and bad swings

Here's a napkin. You're drooling a bit. Right there in the corner. No, the other corner. Now it's hanging off your... Ah, it's fallen on your shirt, never mind.

A guy is in a terrible car accident. His insides are all torn up. He's in surgery for 7 hours while his poor wife sits on pins and needles in the waiting room. Finally, the surgeon comes out. The wife runs over to him. "Doc, you gotta tell me, just level with me, is he gonna make it?!" The doctor, exhausted, wipes the sweat from his brow, takes a deep breath, looks her in the eyes and says, "He's gonna make it, BUT, life as you know it is over. He's a complete vegetable. You'll have to feed him through a straw, dress him, bathe him. He can't even open his eyes. The wife is mortified at the news. Trembling, she looks up at the surgeon and asks, "Really?"

[spoil]The Doc says, "Nah, I'm just kidding. He's dead." He pats her reassuringly on the shoulder and walks away.[/spoil]

DJ Wilson pinch ran last night, so he's back. I know a lot of shine is off that apple but considering the dearth of position players at the upper levels it's still good to have him back. Maybe he can do like last year and go on a post DL tear. Maybe that's his thing.

He actually played Thursday...and went 0/4 with 3 Ks.

Jen-Ho Tseng is having a season to forget.

I get that Tseng is on the 40 so they want to keep him around as a 40 man option to call up to spot start if needed, but at a certain point, with how bad he's been, and his age, I just don't see why they wouldn't just try him in the pen. Granted, with the injuries now, plus that there aren't really many guys in AA really pushing up right now (other than Duncan Robinson), maybe you wait until next year, but dunno, just don't see trying him in the pen as that bad of an idea for a short spell, particularly since it may let him get a chance to catch a breath.
