Without caring too much about this, having those two out front allows you to pinch hit Schwarber and Zobrist in front of Bryzzo if we are trailing late and facing a righty out of the pen. If we get up, who cares, and those two stay in for defense. But, really, I can't be bothered to care too much about an "F it" lineup.

I don't think we have enough from Happ to decide that yet. But what we do have is Almora holding a 1.0 BBK at a sparkling 13.9%. Javy last year is what they're hoping is coming along this season. For some reason he went like 2 for his first 20 (or something) but now he is coming back around and has a 300 wOBA vs them. Last year he posted a 360 wOBA and even a K rate below 20 at 18%. Traditionally he has put up big numbers against LHP.

Just watching Javy and Al vs LHP - you can tell they are much more comfortable at the plate than they are vs RHP. Their pitch recognition is far better , and they make much stronger contact.

Now Miggy over Willy... makes no sense. Really at all.

I'm not really worried about them being unproductive, but it's not great making them the players who get the most PAs today when they're both have a decent risk of having multiple at bats over in 1-2 pitches where they're duped into rolling over or something. It's a nitpicky complaint, but the reason that Zobrist, Schwarber, and Bryant are great for the top of the order is not only their production, but that they're properly selective. Almora has shown glimpses of doing so this year but never in MiLB, and Baez has never been close. In other words, a lineup spearheaded by Baez and Almora isn't going to run Moore's pitch count to 100 in the 5th inning unless they're knocking the crap out of him. It's a small effect, but it does matter when there are alternatives that could give you a better shot at that opportunity without doing something silly like hitting Heyward 2nd against a LHP.

Ok I understand your qualm now. That's valid. Can't dispute that their agressiveness could certainly work against them. I'm simply looking at it from the production standpoint and I believe this lineup will produce several runs.

Their plate discipline/approach is...questionable, even facing off handed pitchers. Personally I'd go Happ/Bryant/Rizzo/Baez/Heyward/Russell/Almora/Montero if you're not going to play Contreras, Zobrist, or Schwarber.

ehh baez has like an 8% walk rate for his career vs lefties, which is pretty respectable, and around a .340 OBP including his awful 2014.

and, for whatever it's worth, almora has walked like 8% of the time in his limited time vs lefties (with a ridiculous .315/.367/.589 line)

i don't have any issue with it vs a lefty

also, maybe it's not approach/discipline and it's just a lesser ability to read same handed pitching

Gameday not working for anyone else?

I think it should be going now.

It just flew through everything superfast in time for Baez's single.
