We gotta trade down from 36 now, right? Maybe even multiple times. I'm guessing a DB is high on the agenda. Maybe a pass catcher of some sort too. There's a solid number of O-Line out there. Plenty of DB's and receivers too.

I'm not sure the D-Line needs as much help as those spots do, but I figure they'll use a pick there, at some point.

CB- Quincy Wilson, Chidobe Awuzie, Sidney Jones, Kevin King, Cordrea Tankersley, Fabian Moreau, Teez Tabor, Rasul Douglas, Cam Sutton, Corn Elder, Ahkello Witherspoon

S- Marcus Williams, Desmond King, Marcus Maye, Justin Evans, Obi Melifonwu, Josh Jones, Budda Baker

That's a hell of a lot of solid secondary help left.

My top 10 on the board (as it relates to the Bears) going into Day 2:

DL Malik McDowell

S Obi Melifonwu

DL Chris Wormley

CB Cordrea Tankersley

OT Forrest Lamp (I think you play him at LT first)

OT Cam Robinson

CB Kevin King

S Budda Baker

OLB Tim Williams

WR Juju Smith-Schuster

Dalvin Cook is my BPA, but the Bears aren't taking a RB (then again, I didn't think they'd mortgage 2 potential starters to move up 1 pick). The Bears probably also aren't taking the 36th pick, as I think they trade back to recoup a 3rd. So, whatever.

Hey, we're back on the same page now lol! Its REALLY deep too. I'm thinking we'll truly attempt to recoup the 3rd and 4th.

How about "i got a horsefeathering franchise quarterback you dicks. How's that for building through the draft?"

I like Obi, dude's got Kam Chancellor written all over him.

I like lots of the secondary left. Evans, King, and Williams are my favorite Safeties. Wilson and Awuzie are my favorite CB's left. But, there's plenty others of each I'd be fine with too.

Wormley is a favorite of mine, but I'd pass on him, to add more picks.

Last year, we went from 41 to 49, picking up 117 and a 2017 4th. Then moved from 49 to 56, getting 124 in return. I'd love to do the same, we'd still have some damn good players on the board, in the late 40's, early 50's. The extra 4ths would be nice too, maybe to grab a DL and a WR/TE.

Welp, this couldn't have gone much better in my world. I love Trubisky but thought he'd get snapped up before the Bears and all you read leading up to today was how much they liked Watson if they were going QB.

A number of nice storylines. For the second year in a row Pace targeted a player and moved up to get him. They had a chance to take the top QB in the class and they took it. To me it feels a lot better than the traditional Bears moves like trading out of the Terrell Suggs pick for Haynes and Grossman.

The hot takes from everywhere on how bad SF hosed the Bears are laughable to me. You hit on a QB and a few third round picks mean very little. The NFL is a little like the NBA where if you get a really good player you can generally hold onto them for their whole career. Seems particularly true of QBs. So they might have some needs now, but if Trubisky is great you can hold onto him for 10+ years and 2017 roster construction means very little in comparison. And it'll be pretty easy to trade back a couple times and grab some picks to fill out the roster.

But on Trubisky. I'm sure I belabored these points plenty in January but might as well throw them out there again for anyone interested in reading additional words about the new future Bears QB. My favorite things about him are accuracy, touch, pocket presence, quick release, and mobility. Seems good at hitting guys in stride. But then you've got the deep ball (see 2:32, 2:51, and 3:51). *As with any highlight reel I recommend muting out the brutal music

Then you might hear some noise about his bad bowl game. But check it out from 5:35 on. He threw like 4 TD passes on this final drive only to have them dropped or penalty flags go up.

Then Voch Lombardi does a great in depth look here. Breaks down mechanics and focuses a lot on how Mitch reads the field, contrasted against a guy like Watson who was very frequently limited to one read or one side of the field.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwONkFHias8

He seems like the kind of guy you don't have to have an all world O-line to keep him safe, with that pocket presence and the fact he ran the same 40 as Watson. Only 6 picks on the year, 68% completion, 8.4 Y/A, #1 in adjusted completion rate under pressure at 68.6% (PFF). Ran shotgun, but with those feet and mechanics I'd think he could figure out a drop step.

So again, I'm just rehashing stuff I already said but with so many news outlets throwing shade either on the pick or the trade I wanted to get on here and be all ecstatic, post some videos. For tomorrow, I'm pumped about these safeties left on the board. Obi is my favorite, but Baker or Williams would be cool too. Probably a trade down or two. But yeah, good day today. Made all the better by Greg Gabriel getting pantsed.

Ok, let's look at this sentiment logically.

How on earth would Pace know that a team is looking to trade up into the top 3? hmmmmmmm.........let me think. in addition, 2 other teams traded up for QBs!

I'd be much more concerned if my team had taken a running back in the top 5

I'll say this. The biggest knock seems to be the 13 starts. At what point are you obsessing over one trait in the face of all others?

I'm not thrilled, but I'm more in a shrug my shoulders mode than the "lol dumb Bears" attitude.

It's a big knock though, because you only have 13 games worth of tape to evaluate him.

It's also a question of what you consider to be a "franchise" quarterback. Was Cutler one? Is, say, Ryan Tannehill one? Where is the line drawn for what qualifies?

Posted

I don't think you understand the point.

But anyways was Cutlers career worth the average expected value of a 3rd overall, 2 thirds and a 4th? Probably*

*obviously the 3rd overall is a bit of a qualifier because you can tie it to a specifc player more so than the others.

I like Obi and Marcus Maye at S. Evans is ultra athletic, but can't tackle for horsefeathers. I think he may be an NFL corner. King I'd take (not at 36), wish he was taller, but he's a guy that can play FS or nickel CB and he's going to play well. Great tackler too. Williams also can't tackle very well, but he'll get the job done. And if it wasn't for Malik Hooker being in this draft, people would be raving about his ball skills

At CB, I like Tankersley. I think he's a 1st round talent. Very physical press coverage guy, that nobody seems to realize ran a 4.4 flat. Not sure why he wasn't more highly thought of.

But yeah, I think you have to trade down and take your chances. It worked out last year with getting Whitehair in the late 2nd. I actually think Cleveland could make another move. Kizer's sitting out there. Not sure how much they like him, but they have picks 51, 52, and 65. If they can walk out of today with Garrett, Njoku, Peppers and Kizer and still have another pick (it would probably only take 51 and 65 to move to 36), they're sitting pretty.

Forget how poorly he played in the game, he actually threw 4 touchdowns on one series that were called back by penalty is one of the dumbest analyses I've ever heard about a quarterback.

13 starts isn't a trait.

13 starts means there isn't enough data to draw a confident conclusion about his actual traits.

The way people have generally used it, its a trait.

At least you were honest about the horrible music.

That highlight reel is not all that impressive to me. The first throw was real nice, but then you've got a couple high school caliber throws and a whole bunch of guys were open by 7+ yards passes for his biggest highlights. Damn that guy didn't seem to face many teams that could cover receivers.

Maybe this guy turns out to be great, but the problem is they wasted this free agency season spending on a QB plus all the picks when this team needed lots of help elsewhere so now all we can do is sit around for 3 years and hope it works.
