"The only thing the Cubs did do differently is adjust their starting rotation, setting up Jon Lester and Kyle Hendricks for Games 1 and 2. They’ll pitch Saturday and Sunday in Cincinnati, giving each of them five days off before their playoff starts. It also gives Jake Arrieta a much longer break if he’s the Game 3 pitcher, same with John Lackey (or Jason Hammel) if needed for Game 4."

Hammel scratched from Friday start...now TBA. Elbow tightness.

Maybe he was told he's not gonna be on the playoff roster and was like "I'm done"?

Seriously doubt it. We may make up an injury or two, but it wouldn't be to the elbow of a pitcher. Lat, lower extremities, etc....Assuming he's not pitching again this year, an elbow injury of any sort would seemingly deter any chances of trading him over the off season.

It will be interesting to see who starts tomorrow. You could start someone like Montgomery with 7 days until the first game, but do you want someone who will be a short reliever to spot start so close to the playoffs? Maybe it will be another pen day and an excuse to get all their guys an inning, but a pen day 2 days in a row?

The other option is to start someone who won't be on the playoff roster which only really leaves one option and it would pretty much give away that he isn't making the roster. Have fun Cahill.

Start Javy.

and risk a liner back up the middle? start seal boy

I'm assuming just to see bodily harm to Seal Boy? Because there's not a liner that Javy won't catch.
