Sounds like Bijan Rademacher got promoted to Iowa.

Clifton threw 7 shutout innings without walking anyone, giving up just one hit, and K'ing 6.

 

Technically it was 7 no-hit innings and then he was pulled in the 8th after surrendering a leadoff hit.

Javier Assad went 3 3 0 0 0 6 for Arizona(may pitch the 9th I'm not sure.....He's another guy they got out of Mexico and has a 2.45 ERA, with 29 K's in 25.2 innings.

 

So, they grabbed Albertos and Paredes out of Mexico. Which is great. But Assad and Carrera both came from there too. Hell of a scouting job in an area that doesn't get much pub.....If I'm not mistaken, BA didn't rank a single player from there that season. Badler even admitted to hearing about Albertos, but not digging far into him.

 

On top of that, they strayed into Venezuela a good amount as well. Perlaza was ranked, but Henderson Perez wasn't. Neither was Jose Gutierrez. Perez has struggled, but he was EXTREMELY young and as a C, he's got a bunch on his plate. Gutierrez has certainly flashed some tools obviously.

 

Bottom line is the more info we get on some of these youngsters, the more excited we'll get. But its awesome seeing us grab kids out of the lesser areas and them showing signs. McLeod can run the horsefeathers out of a scouting department.

Pierce Johnson shifted to the Iowa bullpen on July 26th. After a rough first appearance as a reliever, he's gone 4.1 scoreless and hitless with 8 Ks and 2 BB his last two times out of the pen.

Do you think that Soler's beginning to realize that he's rehab assignment has become more than just that?

Yeah of last years signings Diaz, Nunez, Carrera, Assad, Rodriguez, Ocampo and Kelli look like they could possibly be decent prospects which were all acquired under the max spend this year and next.

 

The year previous we signed Peguero, 2 Meija's, Cabrera, Garcia, Cueva, Camargo & Sepulveda. There could be something interesting among them.

 

It seems like this year our money has been spent in Mexico and Asia/Europe as already mentioned by Badler(specifically mentioned Mexico) especially as any signings from Dominican or Venezuela would probably have been reported. From recollection we didn't hear about any of the Mexican signings until EXST (or BA's Review) except for Albertos and Paredes. Hope a few signings this year like Camargo, Garcia, Assad etc will have already happened but won't be reported for a while. Ocampo from Colombia was similar and hopefully another under the radar signing this year too from Colombia.

 

There is one difference this year from when we had the penalty 2 years ago and that is the pool amount. This year we only have $2mil to spread around. Personally see 4 or 5 300k guys and the rest then a bunch of other guys.

Huh? AFAIK Alberto Mineo is the only European currently in the Cubs organization, and he was signed a number of years ago.
