this eloy stuff is starting to get exciting. he's leading the MWL in slugging, tied for second in home runs, second in OPS, and he doesn't turn 20 until after the season. top 50 prospect in mlb pretty easy, if he comes anywhere close to keeping this up.

meanwhile, tyler alamo didn't dong for his first 108 games as a professional, and now has donged in consecutive games. baseball is funny.

He's 19 years old and in low A, so it's not like there's any urgency to move him. Yeah, if he's going to land us somebody like Fernandez or Tehran, in which case he'd be a secondary or tertiary piece of the package, then fabulous. If not, it will be very easy to keep him.

Ugly outing from Steele. Speaking of which, I'm starting to lose track of the lower level pitching prospects. Can someone update me on who to be following in terms of Steele/Sands/Kellogg/Twomey, and I forget who else.

Love how causally you group Fernandez in with Teheran.

One of these is not like the other

This is even more off topic and almost certainly a hot take, but I'd rather trade for Teheran than Fernandez.

For what reason(s)? Acquisition costs for the two, Fernandez injury history, think there's something untapped in Teheran?

Posted

- cheaper to acquire

- less expensive contract

- longer team control

- better injury history and extreme distrust that Fernandez's will make him worth the cost

- currently performing at a higher level

- belief that Teheran can be better/more sustainably good than he is even now

Not sure what the hang up is. I'm not saying they're the same guy, but they're both young, stud pitchers with multiple years of team control. Fernandez is certainly the sexier option, but he hasn't pitched a full season since 2013. Teharen has, and some quite good ones. So yeah, one guy could potentially be a legend whereas the other is more likely to end up very good, but my point is I'd take either. Or both.

Teheran wouldn't cost anything resembling the package Fernandez would

i'm almost totally on board with this, but with the slight apprehension that dealing with Dave Stewart so much may have badly altered Coppolella's idea of a 'fair return'

Precisely. But my point remains that either would cost multiple top prospects, Jimenez being among them. And it's a price I'd pay for either. Fernandez would simply cost a lot more of them. More importantly, Teheran is a realistic target. Fernandez is more of a pipe dream that we're going go share with 28 other teams. And as long as he's healthy and in a Marlins uniform, there will be no shortage of tumors linking them to all.
