Realized that the town my parents moved to has a team in the carolina league yesterday. So I get to go see the pelicans play tomorrow in Frederick, pretty excited to see some of the prospects in person for once. Anyone not named Gleyber Torres or Ian Happ I should be looking out for? I didn't really recognize any of the other names on the roster.

The position prospects well really dries up after those two. Rashad Crawford is interesting - he's a toolsy OF who started the season hot but has been in a massive slump since coming back from injury at the end of April. You should get Jake Stinnett (2014 2nd rounder) who has gotten off to a good start after a disappointing 2015 in South Bend.

Also take a look at Jason Vossler. He's been the best hitter on the team all season, with a .900+ OPS and .400+ OBP, and a 1:1 BB/K rate. He's 22 all season, so age is fine. I think the Cubs staff like him. I'm curious what his defensive capacity is. So if you could give any impressions of his defensive arm, or whether he looks like he has size for any OK power. (He hit 10 HR's last year, but only 1 this year. His BABIP is quite hit this year, like .389; after being really probably flukishly low last year.)

From the pitching, any gun numbers or impressions about Stinnett would be really helpful, he's a possibly significant prospect.

Some of the relievers also are worth watching. James Farris has 26K/6BB/19IP, and a 0.93 ERA. He was very good for South Bend last year as well, so he might be a real pitcher.

Daury Torrez and Ryan McNeil also quite interesting, both have gotten some high-velocity reports, and Torrez some low-arm-slot talk. Would be fun to get your impressions, if either of them pitch.

Hope you get a good game and get to see Stinnett at his best!

Arizona Phil[/url]"]As things stand right now, it would appear that Dylan Cease, Bryan Hudson, Jose Paulino, Pedro Silverio, and either Erling Moreno, Manny Rondon, or Jesus Castillo will form the Eugene starting rotation, and Daniel Lewis, Tommy Nance, Pedro Araujo, Tyler Peitzmeier, Jared Cheek, John Michael Knighton, and Mark Malave will be the bullpen arms, with Scott Frazier, Alexander Santana, Enrique de los Rios, M. T. Minacci, and Yapson Gomez still battling for jobs in the Emeralds pen. Again, this is only as things stand right now at this point in time, because a lot can happen between today and June 17th (Northwest League Opening Day).

Well, it looks like there's a chance of rain tonight, so I'm gonna forgo the game tonight and go to the one tomorrow. I'll get you guys the scoop on the players you asked for tomorrow.

For some reason, I misread your original post and thought you were planning on going Sunday. Assuming no postponements, it would be Null today and Stinnett tomorrow. Stinnett is the better prospect.

Now 17, Jonathan Sierra (2015 IFA - Dominican Republic- $2.5M bonus) was invited to AZ Instructs as a 16-year old last September, and he made a favorable impression, even drawing comparisons to a (very) young Darryl Strawberry (lanky teenaged LH hitting & throwing corner OF with potential to mash). But Sierra has struggled at Extended Spring Training so far, hitting just 152/243/303 (16% K-rate - 11% walk-rate) in 13 Cactus League EXST games (37 PA), and his second-inning home run today (which was his 1st Cactus League EXST HR) broke an 0-13 skid that goes back ten days. So while his future is bright, he will likely be assigned to one of the Cubs DSL squads (DSL Cubs #1 or DSL Cubs #2) in the coming days.

That sounds more unlucky than overmatched.

Gleyber was 2-5 with a walk and no strikeouts.

Now hitting .356/.408/.600 with 2 doubles and 3 HRs in the month of May.
