Based on my experience last year, you can just wander in off the street and attend everything (outside of autograph sessions) without paying for a convention pass

I know getting any sort of juicy info from Theo would probably be tough, but I'm curious about his draft philosophy. All four of his Cub drafts the first round selection has been used on a positional player, with many of the next several picks being used on pitching.

Based on this track record I'm wondering if Theo and Jed view pitching as too risky to use a first round pick on (especially with all four years the first round pick being in the top ten).

I don't think you need any sort of information to know that's how they feel. They've both said many times that they prefer drafting pitching in bulk, and that college position players tend to have a better hit rate in the first round compared to others.

You're wondering that? Like King said, they've explicitly said it several times. And it's been talked about here lots. Like some element of the "[expletive] pitching" philosophy is brought up in some way in probably half the baseball related posts.

Last year it was just a few guys who were on the verge of coming up (Bryant, Schwarber, CJ, etc. )

Schwarber wasn't really seen that way at this time last year.

True, but I think he was considered a lock for the majors. He certainly acted like he didn't think he belonged up there

Even that's a stretch. Especially since they were still committed to him as a catcher. He hadn't played any higher than high A at that point.

It was really pretty outrageous that he got up as soon as he did. One of the most shocking developments of last season.

I'm kind of counting on this.

There was absolutely no gate or line queue to get into the hotel. They don't have the entire hotel booked just for the convention, so they can't prohibit guests from getting in. My friend and I had passes, but a second friend joined us without one, and he did everything with us
