These are the kind of things that happen when you have a bunch of young guys getting experience.

In other news, they sent Hartman back down so Hossa is probably back for the Devil's game.

Fair point. However, Crawford could stop a puck now and again. I'm gonna echo Goony and say that was just stupid. Mostly because I made the horrible decision to text a Blues fan and point out how awesome the first period was.

Crawford sucks

I haven't watched the game and only some of the last one but isn't it hard to evaluate his performance when the defense consists of Hammer, Seabrook and a bunch of 6th defensemen

probably, I'm just at the game and he blows from my angle. An expensive goalie should stop some shots

Crawford has, for the most part, kept the Hawks afloat. So long as the recent slump is the exception rather than the rule he'll be fine.

Yeah he has been great with the exception of the St Louis and New Jersey game this year. Their defensive depth with Keith out is what is concerning, not a two time Stanley Cup winning goalie having a rough go of it for a short period of time.

Another loss that probably shouldn't have happened last night.

Haven't been able to watch much so far this year, but it seems like Panarin is a player. And I'm sure the league loves that Kane is probably favorite for the Hart at this point.

Need to figure out if this early season sluggishness is because of injuries, because they are pacing themselves or if they just aren't as good and as deep as previous years. Just sucks because that game should have at least gotten them a point but a penalty and a goal immediately conceded on the PK and it's a regulation loss.

I think they've had as much offseason change, especially on defense, as they've had in a number of years. I think they'll be fine, but I think it could take a bit of time to figure it out.

Like the Bulls, I refuse to have strong opinions on this team until at least after Xmas.

Toews and Hossa seem to be feeling the effects of the short off season. Or they are hurt.

The Rockford shuttle has been running non stop but to what end? I can't help feel that they are auditioning replacements for pieces they might need to move if Roszy doesn't pan out. Specifically, the guy that the Hawks can most afford to lose that someone would actually want is Shaw. Hartman, Baun, and Hinostraza are basically Shaw before he had some 20 goal seasons. Either these guys have been showcased for trade or the Hawks are trying to gauge their options if they do wind up trading for a defenseman. It would be great if they could include Daley in that deal as he's been about as bad as advertised. Rundblad sitting in the press box does no one any good. By no means does this mean he should be playing. He might not clear waivers but at this point doesn't even really matter?

Didn't Hossa miss a bit of time with injury?

Only 2pts behind last year's pace, but this season feels a lot like the 2010-11 season after this group's first Cup. They will end up getting in barely and that is all that really matters.

What a strange world we live in. When Rozival last played he was a hated weak link on the blue line. Now him and Keith are coming back as saviors

so patrick kane has been really good lately from what i can glean from twitter/radio

Goal in 7 straight games and him and Panarin are really clicking

isn't sandbagging in the regular season the mark of an experienced and perrenial cup contender?

I'm not sure that sandbagging is the most accurate term. It's more a matter of picking your battles and pacing themselves. Sandbagging implies an attempt to convince others that you're not as good as you really are. I doubt anybody is buying that the Hawks aren't still favored to at least reach the WCF.

He's most dangerous when he feels like he has something to prove. He had a good shot at the Hart trophy (MVP) and a decent chance at the Art Ross (scoring title) before he got hurt last season. A full season with a real center and a LW that can bury the chances Kane gives him will go a long way toward helping him win one or both of those awards.

so this is allegedly patrick kane in the top right

Bread Man quietly moves up to a tie for 4th in points in the whole league. That line has been unreal, especially considering the (relative) early season struggles of the top line.

Stay healthy and find a way to slot in another reliable D-man and this 'rebuild year' could be more 2014 than 2011.

It's unbelievable really that the Hawks were able to pluck this kid up. I mean I know he wasn't unknown, so it wasn't like superior scouting or anything. But to keep adding talent like this as the established talent is forced to leave...crazy stuff.

Losing Saad and Sharp hurt like hell but replenishing with Panarin and Anisimov (and Dano) is not a bad consolation prize, although I do worry about how we are going to be able to afford Panarin after next year when he is a UFA (right?). Hope we can extend him early at a discount.,

According to CapFriendly.com (no idea how reliable), but he's a RFA after next year, so in theory it'll just be another Saad situation then. That's also the year Teuvo is up for RFA (and Dano too, being optimistic that he reaches his potential), so there might need to be some decisions made. We'll be getting out the Bickell and Daley deals at that point at the latest (hopefully before then). I assume Stan is betting on the Canadian dollar rebounding.
