Maybe play a fun little game called “Find Three Bears Wins On Their Schedule.”

12/6 vs 49ers

12/13 vs Redskins

1/3 vs Lions

Yea there's probably like a 20% chance we make it to Thsnksgiving winless.

Callahan auto is going to have to wait a little longer for the prodigal son to return.

That was probably the most sensible piece I've read on the Bears in a year or more.

Tim Baffoe is really good.

i don't get it, virtually every article i've read since training camp is about that cynical. i think we can stop celebrating the skeptics, even amongst ourselves. there are no fanpoints given out for saying your team sucks'

saying this team is bad and is going to have a bad year is not cynicism

also, you're the damn "everything is against us and everything is going to go wrong" guy

Wait, weren't you predicting pretty good things for this team? There was not universal acceptance that this team was garbage. There were people predicting .500 seasons and more than one that thought they could win 9 games. There is a huge difference between mediocre/average teams and potential top three draft pick status.

Not sure, but did you mean to reply to me?

I thought they'd be better than people thought, but that was when I thought Kevin White would play, Alshon Jeffery would have good legs, and Cutler wouldn't be replaced indefinitely by Clausen.

I didn't expect the defense to be quite this bad, but there's still time for the coaching to show some level of improvement there.

no, I thought Stannis took some sort of late "everybody is doubting this team unfairly" stance. Can't remember, but either way, plenty of people thought the Bears would be better than they've shown so far.

I'm in a survivor league where we can literally pick any team over and over again ( except consecutively), and I still can't bring myself to pick another game even knowing the entire league will be taking Seattle or NE and I could win it all with an upset. Was tempted to take GB and hope for some miracle upset but I just don't think it's possible in any way.

Somebody mentioned Alshon being a good Emery pick. He's a good receiver, when he's healthy and in shape. He's had too many injuries and can't stay on the field. Emery was god awful with his drafting, signing of free agents and contract extensions. I can't think of one thing he did that really helped this team.

Ryan Pace seems like he's following protocol. I'd love to see a young player emerge on this team, but I won't hold my breath.

Thus far, he has missed 7 games, 6 of them in his rookie year. He might've been hobbled last year but still caught 84 balls for 1133 yards.

First, as David mentions, he's only missed 7 games in his career. Second, he wasn't injury prone in college so I'm not sure how Emery could have predicted your notion of "injury proneness". Third, he's a damn good receiver and probably the best WR out of the 2012 draft (maybe TY Hilton, but that's it).

The knock on Alshon was he was out of shape, which suggests a lack of taking care of yourself and a potential tendency for lots of injuries.

If his career winds up being a bit more injury prone than it has to date (he's missed 15% of games depending on what happens Sunday), you could make a case that it would be a knock on the people that ignored the physical questions pre-draft.

That was the knock on Alshon going into the draft, but everything we've heard is that he's been in great shape since he turned pro. And again, he was said to be out of shape during his junior year at SC and still didn't have any injuries like the aforementioned ones that has kept him out of 1 game in the last 2+ seasons.

Not being injured as an out of shape 19 year old isn't the same as remaining uninjured as you get older. Maybe he's trying to get in shape now but his body can't handle the work.

I was actually wondering the other day if there was any impact from Marshall leaving. A lot was written between his rookie and second year how much Marshall took him under his wing and taught him to take care of himself as a pro.

Still he'd have to fall off pretty dramatically for it to not still be a good pick, even if he misses a chunk of games throughout his career.

At the risk of supporting Emery, I don't think you know what awful FA or contracts/contract extensions look like. He was probably average in those areas. Of course he would have had to be ungodly good in those areas to overcome the drafts and his HC hire.

Re: Pace, I'd consider giving a little bit more time before you go all, I ain't holding my breath, but that's just me.

Considering the need to give more time, it actually makes quite a bit of sense not to be holding your breath.

A strange phrase I suppose...

Emery's handing out contracts is bad any way you cut it. Houston, Cutler, Allen, Jennings, Marshall (debatable) just the ones that immediately come to mind. Willie Young was surprising, Martellus is the lone bright spot for me. He was an excellent signing when you consider the black hole of talent at TE since Olsen was traded. I liked Emery's philosophy and the method he seemingly went about his business, but the actual picks he made and guys he signed just weren't good.

As for Pace, the early results at the risk of being premature are not good. I definitely want to give him more time though.
