I feel like the first thing Maddon needs to say at pre-game pep talks when we're facing mediocre pitchers is 'This guy sucks. Beat up on his ass.'

They made him leave before completing 5. I'm sorry that variance didn't go our way tonight, like it has about 10 times already this month.

Other than Howell who came in for 1 batter, the Cubs haven't faced a pitcher tonight with a Dodger ERA lower than 5.48

Of course that's misleading because it amounts to about 50 innings of a sample size

lester gave up some singles, time to talk about how everyone will run amok in the playoffs!

I think a lot of people are bemoaning a consistent issue that has plagued him all year (and beyond. Teams just didn't press the issue as much for whatever reason) and teams are only going to further exploit in the future unless he does something about it.

it's worth talking about, but not every single time he has a bad start. a lot of people view it as something to constantly be mad at him about. it hasn't really hurt him that much this season. there could be a reason that teams don't exploit it that often, so i'm not going to just assume that it's going to be a huge problem in the postseason.

Oh, I know. What's more frustrating is the fact that the Cardinals and Pirates, two teams also prone to baseball variance, don't [expletive] lose. They've been winning all the matchups they're supposed to win.

So have we. You probably aren't supposed to win series against the Dodgers and Giants at their place.

Based on pitching matchups the Cubs had the favorable matchup in 3 games, disadvantage in 2 games and probably a push in 1 (peavy/hendricks). We lost the push game and by virtue of playing in 2 very tough parks to win you probably lose a game you shouldn't have

God this game is annoying. Just wasn't meant to happen, I guess. Good job at the plate tonight, Cubs.

This, this, this. I dread this trip for every reason imaginable. Regardless of what happens, we go home with a 3.5-5.5 game cushion. In other words, I need to turn this game off 2 innings ago.

Anyhoo, I'm sorry for my outbursts. I get upset when the Cubs do shitty things, when obviously, they didn't mean to do those shitty things on purpose. The Cubs didn't decide to hit like [expletive] tonight, it's just bad a stretch of bad luck.

He literally spent the last at bat trying to go to right pitch after pitch, why are we extreme shifting him now
