Schwarber's awesome, but I don't think he'll finish ahead of Kang, Duffy, or Syndergaard, let alone Bryant. Guys don't come up in late July fulltime to win ROY in a loaded rookie class. Unless Bryant goes in a huge slump, it's his.

the point is that he'd have to do obscenely great things to win it

such obscenely great things that we'd leave the cardinals in our dust

i thought "jake johnson knows a surprising amount about the cubs for one of these celebrity cubs fans"

then he said "oh i'd love to see mike olt back up here"

Why not? Olt is a power bat that can rake against lefties. Nobody is asking for him to start but off the bench he can be useful in the right spots.

sure he can

Remember, like a week ago, when people seriously thought that Matt Duffy might beat out Bryant for Rookie of the Year?

i hope shwarbs beats him out

I was about to say if Schwarber keeps up this pace through September it would not shock me one bit if he wins it. And the narrative that the Cubs turned into an offensive powerhouse upon his arrival into the everyday lineup will only help further his cause to the meatbally voters.

I've already heard this narrative and it is so stupid that I can't comprehend it. Not that he didn't make us better; he did. But, him replacing Castro didn't make Fowler, Coghlan, Montero, et. al. better, as I have heard. I mean, I seriously heard that him joining the lineup had this magical effect that made everyone else better. There was something missing, and it was him.

wait, wait , wait. You don't think Starlin has as good of a shot to get a hit off a lefty as Coghlan, yet you think Mike Olt rakes against lefties?

Mike Olt sucks. I'm so confused as to why so many Cubs fans still believe in him. With La Stella and Baez coming up in Sep, I don't think we'll even see Olt. Villanueva is probably even ahead of him on the depth chart.

Yeah, I mean, I know this is a joke. But, a celebrity even knowing the name of C.J. Edwards shows me that he is a serious fan.

Schwarber is already approaching, or has already surpassed, Kang and Duffy in several counting stats and he's played in 65-70 fewer games than they have. He will easily beat them out at year's end, IMO. Bryant, not likely, but the others I don't think it's much of a question.

He's slashing .366/.476/.842 against righties in AAA. Not sure you're going to find a September call-up any better than that.

Rookie of the Year is dumb, Geovany Soto won over Joey Votto.

How does that make it dumb?

Did he not deserve it?

They put up equal value in WAR and Soto played a more valuable position on the #1 team in baseball. He was the proper choice.

jake johnson said "We are good" after the song (instead of "let's get some runs")

Not saying he didn't deserve it but it doesn't equal success so it doesn't matter if Duffy wins over Bryant.

You don't say.

Yes, it would make more sense if the Rookie of the Year were handed out 5 years after everyone's careers ended, to see if they ended up having a career deserving of a Rookie award.
