I just said this in another thread but it bears repeating

Remember those smug Red Sox fans who said "who cares if we lost Theo, we have Ben Cherrington"

Also interesting with McLeod getting lots of interest as a potential GM, I wonder if Theo reaches out and gauges his interest in an Assistant GM position

According to sons of sam horn and probably whatever news sources they are linking that I can't be bothered to read, Cherington was offered the chance to stay on as GM and declined.

The source is the official statement from the Red Sox.

Is it possible he saw the writing on the wall? They hired Dipoto earlier this year and even still Dombrowski is very hands on. When he took over the Tigers he fired the incumbent GM less than a month into his first season

Too bad (not really) the Cubs are buyers now because Boston will be open for business with prospects to sell.

He probably thinks he can get a real GM position somewhere else rather than being under a president of baseball ops/GM like Dombrowski.
