He's hitting 9th in the AAA All Star game tonight.

He's hitting but not even close to the level he hit at AAA last year and not at a level that would demand a call up.

I have to think that Alcantara is dead in the eyes of the Front Office. He was hitting pretty well at the time of Soler's injury and was hardly mentioned as an option while lesser talents like Baxter, Lake, and Szczur got opportunities. Moreover, even if they don't see him as a future starter, the team has had such an infield depth problem with Olt and LaStella out that it's confusing why they didn't give him a shot at a utility role instead of those aforementioned outfielders or Herrera. I think they're keeping him at AAA to maximize his value so he can be shipped somewhere in a trade.

Even sucking I think he is a better option than Herrera because he has so much pop in his bat. 33 of his 76 hits this season are XBH. Surely it's for trade reasons that they are keeping him down. We can definitely use that pop off the bench.

It was my assumption that the front office doesn't necessarily think guys like Herrera, Szczur, etc. are BETTER than Alcantara. I figured they wanted to leave him down there for awhile to avoid stunting his development, until he's good enough to start or get used as a trade piece. I'm sure Kris Bryant could have hit better than anyone on our bench last year, but we weren't about to call him up to be a platoon guy or anything. (Sorry, extreme example, I know). Generally you want your prospects playing every day and getting lots of AB's (hence the Baez situation, also).
