in all honesty, not that high. sure it's not ... exciting ... but he just came off a college season and jumped to the pros. If he's like this next year to start, then the concern meter jumps up dramatically.

he also has a .820 ops. the only thing "alarming" is that he's hitting .220, which is okay when you're walking once a game and hitting for power.

in related news, 3 perfect innings for cease, with 3 strikeouts. someone tell me how excited i should be about him, given the reports on his stuff.

Be as excited as you would be if we had taken him at 9 this year. He was a top 10-15 prospect heading into last year in a stronger draft before he had TJS.

Isn't his velocity even up from where he was pre-injury?

Maybe a wee bit. He was hitting 97 tonight evidently. I don't think he had ever been clocked at 100 pre TJS, but I guess it's possible he could have in shorter stints.

This was posted in the thread during his last start on July 4th.

Have heard the fastball up to 100 mph this summer. Probably highest-ceiling arm in #Cubs system https://t.co/qvnOnN73it

@TommyBirch: I-#Cubs place Kyle Schwarber on inactive list. Leaving for Futures Game. Cael Brockmeyer promoted from double-A Tennessee. #MiLB #PCL

AAA just got quite boring.

I saw this before my coffee, and all k saw was "Cubs place Kyle Schwarber on," and panicked for a second.
