NHL should go to a 3 point system. If the game ends in regulation the winner gets 3 points, the loser 0. If at the end of regulation the teams are tied, each team receives 1 point. Play OT 5 minutes like a regular hockey game for the 3rd point. If it is still tied, leave it as is, with each team only receiving 1 point.

I've never understood why tie games are so reviled.

America's collective loathing of ties has brought us two of the shittiest "innovations" in recent sports history: The MLB AS game that "matters", and the NHL regular season shootout.

Ties are fine. Bring back ties.

On the other hand weirdos get worked up over the AS game mattering and shootouts.

yyyyyyup

i'd like to poll the people in an uproar about the AS game mattering (which is, admittedly, dumb) and see how many of them know/remember how home field was determined before.

i don't have a huge opinion on shootouts, as you guys might imagine, but it seems like kane does really fun things in them from time to time.

I don't get worked up about the baseball ASG, as it still is better than what they did before(rotating year to year) but the shootout is beyond dumb.

Would you get worked up if baseball decided to have a homerun derby if the game is tied at the end of 9 innings?

if the alternative was to tie or have extra innings that were pretty likely to go on for hours, that sounds like it would be amazingly fun.

I admit, I thought home field was determined by better record prior to the ASG winner getting it. I'm a bad baseball fan.

At first, I agree. But I think it'd quickly wear out its welcome. How many extra innings games have the Cubs played? A home run derby would play a huge factor in who makes the playoffs.

it would be cool to not have to worry about your shitty pitchers getting into games late and determining the outcome and then having to call-up another shitty pitcher the day after the game because all the arms are toast. Leave the roster spots for guys who can do cool things like hit homers.

and we'd win every single time with kris bryant and anthony rizzo...plus we could keep javy on the roster just for those games.

Before the 1994 strike the NL had HFA in even years. After the strike the NL had it in odd years until 2003. What was funny to me is it screwed the Cardinals out of the 1985 and 1987 World Series, I believe the Twins in 1987 and 1991 won all their home games and lost all their road games.

That is the main reason for my hatred of the shootout in hockey(although it kept the Kings out this year)

shootouts rule in the regular season

ties are stupid. it's not a sport if there is no clear winner

How is there a clear winner with shootouts?

because one team wins and the other team loses

By not playing hockey?

define "hockey"

There are some Hawks that I'm sure would not be thrilled about him joining the team.

Is there a history there?

He's an [expletive], but seems like the kind of [expletive] you like if he's on your team. I could sign up for this. Obviously Dallas would have to offer picks too, but Roussel would cover the loss of Bickell and potential loss of Shaw.

Just perusing schedule. First 8 games against the East. Odd.

Lots of back to backs against the East this year. Pittsburgh was one in early January. Plus the Hawks play the Dead Wings twice in a day stretch in March.

Looks like the Hawks will be visiting the White House in October as well.

Oh man I can't wait until Blues fans see this in stores

The kids over at HF boards are acting like someone ran over their puppy. I like it for no other reason it pisses off a lot of other fan bases.
