Even though they've only added the Rizzo HR, this is a nice contrast of the benefit of working counts. The 4th is almost assuredly Martinez's last inning because they still worked 20 pitch innings in the 2nd and 3rd, while Wood threw that many in the 2nd/3rd combined and can still potentially go 6.

EDIT: Of course a 4 pitch start to the 4th puts a wrench in things.

Martinez more than doubled his ERA tonight. Maybe we should've paid more attention that he'd faced PHI, MIL, and CIN (x2) this year.

Montero's OPS is up to .869.

I wonder if he'll catch Lester. I doubt it, but he won't start tomorrow either vs a lefty.

i'm so mad that the cardinals won a million one run games against the pirates while we lost two to the [expletive] brewers so that even if by some chance we sweep this series we still won't be in 1st

I'd rather them beat the Pirates. Our season is more likely to swing on the Pirates' record than the Cardinals'.

We talked about the rookie BB record the other day. I think Bryant really might challenge it.

I think they'll stay the course. Since Thursday is a day game after a night game you need 2 different catchers for Wednesday/Thursday, might as well let Ross take the Lester start and get Montero the next game.

Well, his ridiculous ERA/FIP split was noted, so I'm not surprised we got to him, but it's nice that it went as well as it did.
